I raced my friends new Comp Package M3 last week so I clearly understand what they are capable of.
It happened, from a full stop and i used and redlined all four gears, when i shifted at fifth gear, i let off the gas, the speed maybe off a bit. But other than that, my car was stock back then, even the cv was in and i was boosting just over 10psi as well, dropping to 6psi at redline.

Maybe it was the driver of the M who wasn't really racing me, but doubt it when he was just 2 car lengths behind me.

I wouldn't bull**** anyone, there is no need to really.

LOL

But if your honest with yourself you will have to admit there is no way a stock 951 is going to beat an E46.......you are talking about the 333HP E46 right?

I don't think a stock 86 951 has really any chance with an E46 M3, except if you got past it's 155mph limiter. Actually, an E90 330i could probably either beat a stock 951 or at least hang with one. The new 330i pulls on E36 M3s up top.

Probably it was the driver of the M who couldn't drive it, or left it in normal mode (99% of all cars sold here are automatic/steptronic/tiptronic).

Don't know about the E90 330, but the E90 325i doesn't stand a chance with the 951, pulled a huge distance on ours.

Sounds like an M5. 4 weeks ago at Pocono there was one in my run group. It destroyed me down the back straight, ( I believe he said it was 400 HP ) but forntunatly was also I believe was in the 4000 + weight range. He also owned an "89" 951 and graciously didn't hold me up in the twisties. Hugh torque and pull off the second gear corner getting on to the straight with "see yu latter speed".

400 in the old ones. The new M5 is pushing 500, and it is a sweet sounding V10!

Your car weights 3000lbs and around 280hp at crank = 10.7lbs/1HP
E46 M3 weights 3450lbs and 333hp =10.3xx/1HP
The M3 put down 270@ the wheel.
With your set up you should get around 250- 260whp, it is enough to kill E46 M3.

Car is running well......the MAF helps a lot but I need to put in my new 55# injectors and fix a vacuum leak or two......

My car was last dynoed at 232rwhp, but three things weren't right. One was that the A/C was left on accidently, it was 90 degrees, and it has a 3'' testpipe going into a 2 1/4" cat-back.

So I would think that with some tweaking, especially on a cold day my car could gain an additional 10-15hp, and be pretty close to the 250 that you were talking about.

E46 M3's are fast, especially at speed. I have driven essentially every BMW M model ever produced with the exception of the new M5/M6 and the M1. The cars progress substantially over the years, and while the E46 M3 only has 333hp, 270tq, its high 8000rpm redline gives it a hell of a highway pull. In my modded 968 (albeit probably only 205-210whp), I was pulling on to the highway in second and a 6-speed was behind me. By the time I was at 90-100 (end of 3rd), it was as silverbullit said, an easy 3 buslengths ahead. Keep in mind that I have stayed even with a stock STi, 350Z with an exhaust, pulled on a 14psi MR2T then stayed even at 16psi, and have played with numerous other cars. At 230whp, maybe 250whp, I have no doubt that the E46 M3 would have pulled, maybe not that much, but some. The new M5 would have been a slaughterfest, low 12's, high 11's factory. I have tried to toy with a new M5 on the highway and the owner just laughed and returned to his cell phone . The older E39 M5 isn't that terribly fast. An E46 M3 with a good driver can easily pull an older M5, infact I was there with an exhaust/intake/software/SSK M5 when it happened.

I drove an m3 that was like a mustard yellowish green color and it was a ****ing rush. It would eat my 951 alive but my 951 is pretty much stock.

Quick Reply: 951 vs. M3, or was it?
