The metal cats flow better because they have less 'holes per inch'. I.E. the honeycome holes are bigger.

don't know how they will flow as compared to a random tech. cat, the metal cats have less of a catalyst inside them so they may not be as effecient which means no pass on emissions-i really do not know i was thinking of picking one up and seeing how it performs

I've been eyeing the SFR testpipe with swap-able cat.

I have the full Cargraphic stainless exhaust system on my S2. It includes a low restriction 100 cell racing type converter. My emissions were only slightly higher (and still quite low) when I ran it through this year. I think most cars would pass without a converter. My son's '89 951 did when he was running the cat bypass pipe.

Tom,

How does the SFR swapable cat work with the "test pipe"? Can it be used with the stock exhaust system?

Don't know anything about the SFR system, but I'm sure Turbo Tim does

I have the SFR system and normally run the resonator, however I did buy the cat to use when needed. The cat did a good job when I went through emissions recently in CA. It is set up to slip over the three inch exhaust on one end and has a square flange on the other.

Is it a REAL functioning catalytic converter? Or just "appears" like a Catalitic Converter?

I wonder if most 951s would pass without a cat. When they test emissions they are not going to be running in boost so that would probably help keep emissions low I would guess.
