Brake upgrade question
Can those that have upgraded from the Mo30 s4 brakes to anything larger eg Big Reds/Blacks etc please comment on why they felt they needed bigger and what the differences they feel are?

larger than Big Reds/Blacks is very difficult to do if you have S4/951 S brakes under 951 S model. 220hp version with smaller Brembos is much easier, because you can fabricate caliper adapters easily.
We have (me & Pete95zhn) GT2 front & GT3 rear caliipers

I don't think you need to go larger than S4 calipers in most cases, especially on street cars in the US or other countries with normal speed limits. The main reason I upgraded to big red size calipers instead of S4 was cost. They were less expensive new than the 968 M030 (S4). I also liked the look of the 911 Turbo drilled rotors
The GT2 or GT3 stuff sure looks nice but it's also heavier, and expensive.

Ive got the big reds on my car, and I love them. I can tell you that before and after the upgrade was obviously night and day. I can be going triple digit speeds on the highway, and bring the car to a screetching halt very very quickly. It feels like the car sucks down to the ground and just stops, which is a very different feeling then I had with the old brakes.

My reasons are for the track not the street. My car is still driven on the road daily and the Mo30's are fine. On the track however even with Castrol racing fluid, stainless braided lines, EBC yellow pads, and 968cs air deflectors I am having to really stand on the brakes where it seems Boxters, 993's, 996/7's, GT3's etc just seem to touch theirs and for a much shorter time. I'm sure there are other mitigating circumstances such as car balance/suspension but it still looks like I'm losing a lot of time due to braking?

What comes to price at least here in Europe you can get used GT2 calipers cheaper than used Big Reds, because Big Reds are sought after by VW, Opel, BMW, etc. enthustiast

I like the big reds a lot but I also never had a problem with my stock S2 brakes on the track, running Pagid Orange pads. Our local track isn't that hard on brakes though, just one long straight where I could hit about 135.

You are right, rotors are heavier, especially the front ones. There is not necesserily need to have GT2/GT3 brakes, they are mostly for looks...Altough we have had problems with original small Brembos with hard core track use

The track pad life of the big reds is about 5x that of the stock calipers. I saved enough in brake pads to pay for the big reds in one year.
Oh, the stopping ability is pretty cool too!
