Default Lightweight Battery in Excellence

Does anyone have the last couple of months of Excellence laying around? Supposedly there was an article where they put in a lightweight battery into a 944, and I need to find what the part number is (I guess it can be gotten at Advance auto). I would guess it is in the white 944 that is usually towards the back of the issue getting something done to it. I seem to have every issue but july and august of this year, so it must be in one of those.

Thanks in advance!

Auto Zone stocks a Magna Power brand ETX14 for $70. They also have a larger version, it's either a ETX16 or ETX18 with more CCAs but they also weigh more. Not all the AZ stores stock them, only the hub stores. I checked at Advance and the ones around here didn't stock any gel cell batteries.

I have the ETX14. I've done 4 track days with it so far and it's works absolutely fine. No problems starting whatsoever and I haven't used my float charger at all between events. Keep in mind my car is track only: no radio, power windows, headlights, etc.

If you want the exact one they used in the Excellence car, I think it was an Odyssey 680. My issue of Excellence seems to have found the recycle box.

Unfortunately the Aug issue of Excellence has gone off the shelves here. Did the article go into what the minimum battery specs would have to be for a track 944, ie mimimum cold cranking current amp/hours etc ?

Karl,

I put the Odyssey in my car. I can show you how to put it in without cutting and drilling and you can use the stock clampdown, so you can always go back to the standard battery. I use the stock battery for the winter and Odyssey for race season. PM me and I can give you details of what you need, or you can call/come around

Most of them are made by the same company, Deka. Try Eastpenn, they're the main suppier. I've got the ETX14 and it works great.
