Default 968 spoiler question

Do you have to replace the whole hatch to put on a 968 spoiler, or can you just buy the wing and assorted trim parts???

You can buy the wing alone, but it's a real PITA to install. You have to drill a couple of holes in the glass. I have one that I will install soon that I'm just going to glue on, like Leadfoot944's wing.

You have to make custom tabs etc....save the head ache and buy a whole hatch.

kinda depends, but I see 968 whole hatches go for 800-1000, about typical range I suspect
search in this forum.. you must fabricate metal tabs to the hatch frame... positioning is critical

Yeah, 968 hatches are scarce and expensive. I'd buy one if I could find it.

You only have to make a few small tabs, no drilling, not much trouble, but the pieces are not that cheap.Looks way better than the rubber thing

You only have to drill 2 holes in the hatch frame (one on each side) for the side trim pieces which are otherwise a direct bolt on replacement as is the hoop spoiler. The only challenging part is making the metal tabs for the rear trim piece although they really aren't too hard after you figure out how to make the first one. I have some time off next week and hope to put together a "how-to" with pictures. The 968 style spoiler should have been put on the 951 from day one.

Says you!!! I like the rubber thing more than most of the other options especially when viewed from a 3/4 looking from the front to the back. Besides you can put stuff on there when your hands are full and you're looking for your keys!

Agreed. I love the look of the rubber piece.

Default Glass Drilling?

I don't know specifically about this topic, but I know glass somewhat. Drilling may be a really bad idea, mmkay? Glass is tempured (top layers become much harder in high heat) and when you drill you expose untempured glass which would be asking for a sudden explosion. The same thing happens when a stone hits your windshield... You know what happens then...

You don't drill the glass (which is, indeed, a very bad idea), you drill the metal frame surrounding the hatch. Its not a big deal.

In case you missed it, here is a basic how-to for installing your 968 spoiler:
