Default be careful with 275 size rear tires!

I just installed kumho victoracer R compound tires on my 951 sixe 225 45 17 front and 275 40 17 rear. The rear drivers side shreaded on the fender lip while the pass side fits perfectly.
I just got my 255 rears to install later today. My wheels are fikse fm 10 10 inches wide in back and are the 993 offset. I was under the impression that some people are running 275 size tires on their cars without rolling the fenders.
The tire looked like it would work and was nicely tucked in the wheel well until the car squatted under acceleration.

If anyone wants to buy one perfect victoracer v700 275 40 17 with about 10 street miles on it let me know.

I think the problem was the offset was not spot on perfect. All you needed was a few mm.

It has been my understanding that you can run 275's at all 4 corners, but need to get the offests just right to make them work.

I had that happen to me. 275 Hoosiers fit fine but 275 RA1's rubbed on the driver side. I couldn't see where it was rubbing so I put masking tape around the lip of the fender and rolled just the small section of the fender (mine rubbed towards the front of the fender at around the 9:00 position) and everything was fine.

My rub was in the same place, I have bent the lip back with the help of a baseball bat!

275 will be perfect on the 993 17/9 rim. Michelin approves this, though it is not ideal.

Ben, I have 275's on the rear of the Gen'l Sherman, and they fit without incident, and I am running 10" FM10's as well. Hope you don;t hate me for buying your old car!

Regards,

I run 285's or the rear with 10" wide hollow spoke twists with a 65mm offset. No rubbing and no rolled fenders. Could also have to do with how stiff your suspension is in the rear. May be too soft.

Not all tires are the same size. Friend of mine found a 1" difference between brands of the same size tire.

My suspension is in need of an overhaul! I ran 275 size r compounds on my 993 without fitment issues on a 9" wheel. The car is currently below me in the shop having the 255s installed as I type this so I can make it to Summit Point tomorrow. Thanks to tire rack's deleware wherehouse standard ups orders show up next day!
My wife does not want me to go as we just had a premee baby and there is a chance he might come home from the hospital tomorrow.
Scott are you running the 993 offset as the wheels look great with the 275s on the car. I went about 200 feet before I heard the tire on the drivers side shread to the cord.

I run 275-40/17 rear and 255's in front with no rubbing. The offset on mine leaves almost an inch of clearance to the lip in the rear. It's all about offset and what tire. In street tires the tread width on Yoko ES-100 is a full 1" wider than my Bridgestones with the same section width. Many people have complained about the left side always rubbing more than the right...go figure.

Scott has 944T offset wheels. I know because he bought them from me.

I have a slight rubbing issue with my current BBS 10" rears, ET47's vs. ET56's. It wasn't bad last year with 275 yokos, but now I have 275 Toyos. We'll see Saturday if I rolled the fender enough. I've some Cup 2 9's I'll throw them on if I have too

I have 275 falken rt615s, they run wide. I have no rubbing with my HREs that are 17x10, the rear of my car is quite low as well.

Yup, I'm running Mike's old Fikse's, and aside from the hassle of keeping them clean, they are awesome. I've also got new Bilsteins on the back, but am going to see about lowering the car a bit soon. I have measured it a couple of times and do not expect to see any rubbing when I do so. No promises if I change rubber, tho.

Ben, I love this car altho now I am getting ready to do a head swap/timing belt job before 944Fest and am seriously thinking about upgrading the turbo while I am at it... don't tell my wife... lol

Regards,
