Is the k26/8 much better than the k26/6
I have owned 7 porsches so far (3 have been the 951) and driven just about every model Porsche, but I have never driven a 951s, is there anyone wo has owned or driven both who can tell me the difference in power? Chipped #6 vs chipped #8. I assume a chipped #6 is faster than a stock #8.

A 6 spools a little quicker, but an 8 holds the boost all the way to redline, a 6 runs hotter cause it's smaller, they say a 6 is better for street, but an 8 is better for racing, I prefer the 8 cause once it kicks in, you feel it all the way towards the end, in the 6 you feel it more when it kicks in......

I like the 8 because with a good chip with extra fuel and boost you get all that extra run out above 5K. The 6 can be massaged down lower but nothing helps it at higher rpm. I love mine that's for sure. Although a 27/6 or 8 is starting to sound interesting...no wonder I'm are always broke!

Ben, skip changing the turbo and get an S2 ring and pinion in your 951 LSD equipped tranny instead. It will cost a bit more but you will LOVE it on the track. Trust me, its well worth it.

For a while, I was running my '88 turbo car pretty much bone stock with just a full exhaust. My dad had a 100% bone stock '89 turbo. His car would smoke mine in a straight line. Then I went to a 26/8 with the same full exhaust. Lots more fun. Think the 8 works better on the track where i'm constantly in the boost. Slower spool fractionally, but hits harder. With just an exhaust i hit 250rwtq on a dynojet

'86 951 (k26/6) : 210hp
'89 951 (k26/8) : 250hp
I'd say 40hp is a pretty big difference, considering the engine is otherwise almost exactly the same, the only difference is the size of the turbo hotside!
But then, you could pick up a Vitesse turbo for a couple grand and be up to 350+hp.

Ian - you can't tell tthe differrence from the outside.
The difference is INSIDE the housing where the exhaust enters.
What this does is change the torque characteristics of the air as it acts on the turbine.
I have an old #10 on my bench and it is also the same exterior size as the 6 and 8.
