Ok, this is the 3rd tension rod that I have broken. It keeps breaking one of the rod ends on the threads. I even broke down and bought a whole new one. that one lasted 5k miles.
I thought there might be some binding so I replaced one end with a spherical rod end. Now it does not break on the spherical rod end but I can not put one on each side since the threads for the spherical end are not long enough.
What gives???
Any ideas on the cause or a solution to my problem?

If you don’t loosen both A/C compressor bolt (front and back) while adjusting the compressor and then tighten them after the tension is set you will continue to break the adjuster.

No problem, I hope they can get that problem sorted out.
I do loosen both of the AC compressor bolts before I adjust the rod. I also loosen the bolts that go through the rod ends.

Are the threads becoming seized in the threaded rod? I leared the hard way to coat them liberally in anti-seize before putting them back on. I broke one adjusting the alternator belt during my winter vacation, go figure it was the last day and i needed to head back that night. I was lucky my fathers friend next door was pretty handy at welding and tacked the eyebolt backtogether for me.
Of the 5 944's i have worked on adjusting those things, every single one was seized and required a ton of heat or soaking in PB Blaster to break it loose.

Chris,
I never loosened both front and rear ac compressor bolts while tensioning the rod....
However, you need to loosen both bolts on the tensioning rod first, then apply/release tension. Never had a problem using this method.
