Default 12v Accessory power

I did a search for “12v Accessory” and did not find much. Can someone tell me the best/easiest source of 12v accessory power for an aftermarket(AutoMeter) A/F gauge. This is not a lighting switch. I am also wiring in a boost gauge that requires power for a light. That I hear is best drawn from the ash tray light. But, the A/F gauge requires a power feed that is on when the engine is running.

Thanks!
Randy

Oh…it’s a 1986 951.

There may be better sources, but I pin 1 on the DME is a switched 12 volt source (red/yellow wire) - I use it for my piggyback and wideband.

easy instrument light source is to split, solder, heat shrink the wire from the ash tray light. Tom mentioned 1, then you have wires 18 and 35 on the DME as well. I have my WBO2 on 18 and my Mafterburner on 35.

I have the get out the schematics to tell you for sure but I don't think so; both go to power the G5 relay, DME.

You could also use the radio power wire since it is close.

let me get this straight as I'm gonna be installing my boost gauge this next week along with my vitesse chip.

Everyone mentions this ashtray light. Was this an option on certain cars? I can pull my ashtray out and I don't see any sort of light available to tap into. Could someone post a pic?

did you turn on your instrument lights when you pulled the ashtray out? See that little hole in the ashtray, the tiny bulb should be right behind there.

I found it. Checking it in the dark helped. My problem is the wiring is under the carpet and through a little hole so I never saw those wires everyone was talking about. I think it might have been replaced at one time or something.
