Smoking Taillights? Kinda like this?

First I sanded down all the lettering on all the lenses with 800 grit sand paper and made them as flat as I could.
Second I sprayed a couple of coats of VHT Niteshades taillight tint onto them to get the color I liked. Then I sprayed about five coats of a clear laquer on top to protect the color coat and to give me some room for wet sanding and polishing.
Next step 1500 grit wet then 2000 grit wet. A medium cut compound with a meguires power ball then a fine cut.
Finally I used a swirl remover and that's it.
Time consuming but It turned out really well I think.

Do a search on E-bay for "silver porsche crest". There is some guy selling them for 3.99, with $10 for shipping. The quality is a bit off stock, but for 14 bucks what have ya got to loose?

HOLY SH_T! 139 bucks for a silver badge! That's retarded! I really wanted one. I guess I now know how much I didn't want one! I'll stick with the 25 dollar gold one I guess.

Yep, the price is going up since Porsche pulled them off the shelf. They used to be $65.

I'm not saying they are near the quality of the $100 originals, but for the price it is not a bad option! Here is a Rennlist thread with good pics of one installed:

Anyone ever take a stock badge and try and deplate it?....or replate it, or dremel off the facing gold.....might be a cheaper option.
They aren't real gold you know

Dan, I'm glad you like it, but it clearly isn't the same thing. The originals are not stuck on with 3m adhesive as yours is. As I'm sure you already know they have two prongs that hold them on with fasteners under the nose panel. Here's this guy's one negative feedback.
"
IT IS NOT A HOOD BADGE
Buyer pro-sports1021 ( 273) Apr-25-06 08:45 8055564829
Reply by goldtrust49: It IS a hood badge. I may have innocently mailed wrong item. "

I have experience with an adhesive backed badge falling off, so too me this thing isn't worth the 3 bucks the guy wants. Ofcourse the real thing sure as hell isn't worth the 139 that bumber plugs wants either. lol to each his own.

""Original SILVER metal Crest to adorn the interior or exterior of ALL Porsche MODELS, 911, 914, 924, 928, 944, Boxster, 986, 993, 996, Cayenne. "

and the above statement is flat out false.

Like I said, it may be great for someone, I just don't prefer it. Not trying to flame or pick a fight.

Eyal, I certainly understand your point. If you purchase 3m automotive trim adhesive, and prep the surface, that sucker is stuck on there VERY well. That same adhesive holds on many larger parts all over cars, including our big door ding mouldings. My point was it is not a sticker. The guy has 815 POSITIVE feedback and you quote his ONE negative? You are kidding, right?

Just because the mounting method is different, that does not mean it is NOT an "Original SILVER metal Crest to adorn the interior or exterior of ALL Porsche MODELS, 911, 914, 924, 928, 944, Boxster, 986, 993, 996, Cayenne". Well, OK, I guess you could successfully argue it isn't exactly an "original". If he were to remove the word "Original" the rest of his claim is correct. For thirteen bucks delivered, it is a great bargain, even if you only stick it on your toolbox.

If you mean it is a "sticker" because it is stuck on, then I guess you've got me there. I usually consider stickers paper or plastic.

Is smoking your tail lights that dark even legal...or safe? The last thing I would want is to be rear ended because someone could not make out my brakelights. Looks smooth though, but I would still take function over feature.

To get back on track, keep the comments up on on the silver badge. I have been trying to find a deicent one for a while now.
