How is everyone going way past the rev limit? I have aftermarket chips and still hit rev limit right about redline.

 

It's true;
I've also experienced that the tach is way off at high RPMs.
Although I have not experienced inconsistent readings (like, sometimes rev-limit hitting at 6,800, sometimes 7,200, etc); just always reading high.
I was also concerned about the DME signals, and a Porsche technician assured me that the DME receives and knows what the right RPM is; it's just the tach which is off.
Also, of course, everybody knows the speedo is off as well.

gonna be honest and say that I have a hard time believing you hit 7,500 RPM and "car was still pulling"
You'd need some pretty serious modifications for that (low back pressure turbo, aggressive cam, solid lifters, for starters); not saying you don't, it was just said pretty casually, like it'so big deal.

it's the other way around:
gearing down will INCREASE the torque and vice versa.

 

TurboTommy, I can only tell you what it felt like and what the gauges were reading. I have no idea what the actual speed was, but it was still pulling nicely. Since you're in Ontario, talk to the guys at Engineered Automotive (Concord). They just finished with the refresh and alignment on that car right before I did the run. It was basically running perfectly. After that, believe what you wish.

I wish I had a GPS on me at the time so that I could get an accurate speed, but I didn't.

I did do a couple of lower speed runs with the GPS later and found that the speedo was about 10 mph off at 150 - true speed was 140 or so.

I doubt that I'll ever re-create those conditions, early morning, cool, dense air, no traffic and being able to see for (literally) miles with no traffic.

It was still a no drama, no excitement drive. No shaking, no lightness in either the front or back, tracked nice and straight, other than the speed it was boring.

The chip I was running at the time had a redline right about 7500 rpm.

Sounds about right. I think a straight 5% high reading from about 40-50mph on up.

Of course, bigger wheels/tires can bring that back in check.

 

Assuming it was not a fluke it, again, shows how much more these cars are capable of then the factory intended or admits to.

I'm not saying to run out and run at 7K+, but I have heard others in here say pelnty of times at the track they have ran well into the redline and no problems. Soo....

 

Do you really want anything more than 6,500rpms? at 7k+ rpms i doubt you're rods would like it and the same for those valve guides (ask Chris White on this).

Well, in my case with the big turbo that is still pulling at redline, another 500-1000rpm would be nice
