Default gearbox oil for an 89?

hi all,

any recommendations for gearbox oil for an 89 (with the lsd)?

i'm getting some amsoil series 2000 for the motor, and thinking about getting some for the tranny...either MTG 75w (GL4), or SVG 75w (GL5). but i have no idea what any of that means . should i just stick with the regular stuff (Which i think is some variety of mobil).

cheers,

chris.

www.amsoil.com
either order online or use the locate a dealer button.

Don't use the SVG. Look at the viscosities, it will be hard to shift.
Use MTG if you would like to use one of their products. Their Series 2000 line is being worked out if I recall correctly. None the less, I find their products to be top notch.

Redline 75/90 GL5 for LSD units, Paragon. We're running it in the track car(89 unit) with no issues at all, smooth shifting too.

I have Redline in my trans right now. Have yet to use it (amongst a huge collection of other goodies).

I've had Mobil 1 in my LSD trans for that last 30K miles. Shifts great and it has 168K total miles!

I use Redline 75W90NS GL-5 in mine. It works great, shifts easy. The NS doesn't have the FM (friction modifier) which you need in the LSD, but the syncros work better without it. You can then buy the FM seperately, and add just enough so that the trans doesn't make noise.

hmm...has anyone used the mtg in an lsd tranny before? i'm a bit worried it's going to chatter - if it does, is it 'bad' for the tranny? i'm assume not, and that it's just an annoying thing, so it won't matter if it takes a few days to get the friction modifier necessary. right?

Redline or Amsoil are the only two I'd recommend. A local tranny expert told me that Redline was better for heavier track use, and Amsoil was better for street and occasional DE use. I have Redline in my NA and love it as well.

I have Amsoil in my Turbo box (going on six years now) and Redline in my NA. Both units are run without friction modifier and I get zero chatter from either LSD’s. I’ve run Amsoil in three turbo boxes and redline in two. Really not much of a difference that I can tell between the two and I’ve yet to have a tranny failure due to wear or abuse.

And abuse he may do from time to time. Jeremy builds a car to run and not break and he tests the not break part on a regular basis.

You sure did score with the NA, it has an LSD also???

With Sweepco should I add the friction modifier for the LSD? Possibly the Ford cat **** smelling stuff?

Also Jeremy, any word on the fuel lines? Send me a note when you get the parts in.
