Default Pressure valve for head?

Hey guys...
I have been meaning to ask this for a while now...
Am I supposed to have the following encircled pieces in the PET picture? And if I am supposed to have them, do they fit where the arrow is pointing?

Because, I don't have a spring or ball bearing, or anything that resembles anything in the red circle.

Look closely at the fitting, it is an allen, the ball and spring are underneath. You going for a midnight start?

I looked at the hole with the red arrow... It is perfectly round...

Which part is an allen? I really can't figure out where the spring and ball bearing is.

I'm really just trying to make sure everything is there... If you can tell from the pic, please let me know. I just want to put the cam tower back on!

Thanks guys!

my spare head up on the shelf is an allen, but yes everthing should be under there and if you didn't have issues with leaks on the cam tower you should be good to go.

Mine looks just like your picture. You should be good to go. (When I put the cam tower on, I back the motor up 20-30 degrees or so -- that way if the cam turns a little when you bolt down the tower, you don't have to worry about anything hiting. )

Okay good deal...
I can't remember ever seeing a spring and a ball bearing. However, my engine builder could have removed it and forgot to put it back without my knowing. Just wanted to make sure I had all the pieces!

Thanks guys!

The shop manuals show that valve as a press in set-up I think, you have to drill and tap it to replace it if I remember correctly.

Not to hijack this thread but I have a couple questions about said valve?

What happens when this valve fails?

Is this the only place oil is introduced to valve springs and cam followers?

And would a sticky/failing valve create a situation where 90% of the time my cam followers make a ton of noise, and the other 10% they are quiet? By the way, the followers have about 6k miles on them, so they are all but brand new.

Thank you
Tom
