Default Fair price?

Hokay, the turbo S in my sig... I'm buying from dad...

History:
Full records
56,000 miles
belts done recently, documentation to prove it... but not while we've owned it.... gonna do em anyway....
Paint is about 5/10
interior is FLAWLESS (no dash cracks, nothin)
car is in great condition mechanically
has new ignition system and vacuum lines
Car has Blaupunkt 5 disc in-dash changer, sub, amps, etc.

Mods:
Vitesse chips
TiaL 38mm wastegate
Blitz EBC
Lindsey Stage II wastegate

Tires are shot. needs new tires... clutch, I'm not sure... gonna look into it.

all that for $12,500.00 sounds pretty damn good to me, but I don't know if I can get it financed for that... and I need to act quickly. I think the 924S is starting to eat itself again...

But the paint is 5/10? Why? Such low miles?

the paint is 5/10. it looks like the PO went to get a minor accident or stone dings repaired at Maaco... there is overspray in some places, and the clear is coming up in others.

low miles, the PO's didn't drive it... kinda like Dad... I think in the year and a half it's been in the family, it's gotten, what, 3000 miles or so...

I paid that much for my 86 with 69,000 recently. Paint is 9/10, perfect interior and had major work performed(clutch, engine seal, belts) at 65,000. But I think that price might have been a little high.

i don't believe a bank will finance an older car especially that much. When i bought my car i had to pay cash and get a small personal loan.

It depends on the bank. I can put in an online application for a loan and they send me a check in the mail for the amount I want. They don't even ask what kind of car, year, etc.

let me see

customer: "I would like a loan for $12,000"

bank mgr: " $12,000?"

Customer; " yes its for 1988 car with a shoddy paint job, possibly a prior accident, balding tires, and in need of an $800 clutch job"

Bank manager: " is that all?"

Customer: " It also has Vitesse chips"

Bank manager: " oh well that clinches it. Here is your cash"

credit union my friend. they told me I just need a cosigner, and they'll finance any car... only need a cosigner because I haven't had a loan before.

i'd work dad down to 10k considering it needs a clutch job and a new set of tires.

although i really doubt that after 56k miles, the clutch is gone, you could always upgrade it......

definetly get it down to the 10.5-11 range if it still needs some other stuff

(oh christ, and it needs paint......)

I dont know what age you are and it's none of my business but if you don't need to get a credit rating, why dont you just pay your dad the interest on what ever loan you would get ? He plays the roll of the bank, collects interest and has a written contract for the loan. He gets the interest, you get the car.
If you are irresponsible and don't make your payments he ( repos) takes the car back ....
When I first started work I came into a real estate deal but didn't have all the funds needed to buy my share of the building ( I did save a boat load on my own but had only been working a year or so. I borrowed 10 grand ( back in 81 ) and drafted a promissory note with interest. I paid the load back early and got into a deal that I wouldn't have been able to without my parents assistance ( its a win win ) they get interest and you get the oppty to buy ....
I still own the real estate today
Good luck
Regards
Ed
