Full disclosure: I left this shield off during reassembly after my rebuild in January 2005. Not intentional, but in the world of potential rebuild f-ups it was tolerable. Not sure if its possible to replace without pulling the exhaust manifold, so it has stayed off since.
One full race season and the start of the 2006 season later, and nobody died. No perceptible change in oil temperature, even in the heat of summer.
I'll put it back next time the manifold comes off, but until then I'm sleeping soundly.

Ahhh, this is one of those things I've been putting off. Mine is broken, but still attached, so it rattles against the manifold and oil filter. Sounds like crap. Since I can't even see where/how it's mounted, does anyone have a pic or diagram or link to one as to how they come off? I'm assuming this is one of those jobs where a six inch tall mechanic would come in handy.

What's required to remove that? Can I do it without removing the exhaust manifold? Using the pics above, can someone show me where the mounting points are? Could I ask any more questions in one paragraph?
Thanks!!!

The manifold does not have to be removed...the piece is held in place by 1 10mm bolt going straight into the oil filter housing, and the other I'm not exactly sure what it attaches to, but I do recall that it's straightforward.
