Default Brake project pictures

As some of you might remember,I posted earlier some info about my ( and Olli's ) big brake project. Well, the summer is almost here and finally something is happening.I have had some problems with milling of adapters ( the company missed their promises by one month ) and I still haven't got parts for hand brake. And front pads are still somewhere between the factory ( Ferodo ) and Finland...
Anyway, here's some details and pictures of freshly installed parts.

Front: GT2 M449 calipers and rotors ( 350x34mm ). 968 brake ducts,lower ones still unmounted.
Rear: GT2 M449 / GT3 calipers and rotors ( 330x28mm )
Pads F & R Ferodo DS 3000.

Front suspension is overhauled with powdercoated and/or new parts.LEDAs I installed last spring along rear suspension overhaul.

Yellow is the colour of this season...

How much have you invested in this project?

Are you certain that they're big enough?

A couple of serious questions:
1) Why the tender springs on the Ledas?
2) Where/who is the brake duct from?

Looks like a pretty sweet project, and the car is more than worthy.

=)

1) No rattle and while my set-up is a direct copy of H&R ClubSport Kit they're included in that too...

2) 968 Porsche OEM,upper part is a direct bolt-on,lower needs some imagination and superglue.

Very nice setup, good job! Do you plan on modifying the master cylinder, or do you think the stock 951 unit will be fine?

Thanks!

Well, pistons' overall diameter ( and hence the area ) is just the same than in 951,so I do not see any need for that.

I would love to hear your impression of the upgrade once you try it.

I think it looks great, good job!

Question: I'm really curious of the cost of this project vs big reds(blacks) and if you looked at that in comparison to what you have spent here. Please understand, this is not a question about how you spent your $$ because it's your money. I'm just about to tear down the front suspension on my street car for a refresh(rebuild arms and castor blocks) and I thought about big blacks at the same time but this is pretty interesting.

First of all, this is not a kit,I've put it together from various sources. Calipers are from e-bay,discs OEM,pads from a race shop and adapters custom made.

Considering an "affordable" solution to bigger than TurboS / S4 front brakes is either Big Reds / Blacks with proper discs ( like these: https://www.928gt.com/ps-1820-132-br...cast-hole.aspx ) .Suits non-S with adapters ( the same than for TurboS / S4 -upgrade ) and S's bolt-on. Pads are also reasonably priced. Price range $1000-1500.
Next option for non-S cars is GT3 monoblock calipers, pads and discs. Both are available at the same cost than the Big Red route.Adapters' dimensions are a bit different. However these calipers don't fit S's without very tricky adapters ( high $$$ ).Price range also $1200-1500.
If you go my way prepare for some spending. While calipers can be bought at almost the same price than previous ones, discs and pads cost double than for Big Reds or GT3's... Adapterwise it's the same than with GT3 solution. If using Motorsport discs meant fot GT3 Cup -cars,you can get them at almost half price, but they only have half the usable thickness... Price range around $2000.

Then there's the rear. If building a race car without requiring a parking brake or if you're allowed to use hydraulic one ( which we here are not ),just get the calipers and discs and have the adapters made. Calipers can be bought from e-bay affordably. Price range $1000.
If you want a "normal" handbrake with this option, prepare to add $300-500. You either have to add another, small caliper or go my way. I'll post pictures later...

Anyway you can get part of the cost back by selling your old brakes. If you want to use new calipers, double my price estimate. If you buy a kit from a vendor, double my estimate. It only applies to hobby builder who's ready to do all the work himself.
