Sanity check (Drove a turbo today)
I took a drive in a turbo today - mildly interested, but I think they're maybe asking too much. What say you all?
'87 turbo, unknown miles. 57,000 3 1/2 years ago, odo says 63k now but is broken. Belts and waterpump done in 2002, so it's due.
Motor was stock, then upgraded, then put back to stock (chips and all). Air conditioning removed, baffled pan and larger oil cooler still installed.
Suspension has major upgrades, Koni adjustables, coilovers, rear bars reindexed and coilovers in the rear too. Welt 28mm front bar, 968 030 rear bar. Camber plates. Big reds, drilled rotors. Brey Krause stress bar. Options list includes a lsd, but I haven't verified that.
Interior has been redone, rear seat removed, harness bar, sparco seats and 5 point belts. Steering wheel is still stock, dash is horribly cracked. Sunroof doesn't work. Exterior looks really good.
I won't say what they're asking for it, but what might you pay for it?
BTW to buy this I'll have to give up my '89 M3, which I've owned for almost 14 years now, I thought I might keep that forever. Probably the 924s too.

Do not, I repeat, Do not get rid of that M3. Those are amazing and rare. Thank you.

It's seen at least 8 DE weekends last year, so it's been used. I'd use it as a weekend driver, maybe do a DE or too in it if I didn't want to tow the 944. The paint is good, the ultra rare black, second only to guards red in rarity.
I'd love to keep the M3, but I don't have enough garage space right now.

e30 m3's in good condition are far more rare than 944t's in any condition.
You're not confusing an e30 with an e36 are you, ski?
In any case... under no circumstances should anyone give up an e30 M3 they've owned for 14 years for any 944t with a questionable history.

I wouldn't classify the M3 as rare, hell they're everywhere in Little Rock and Memphis.

Then LR and Memphis must be the capitol for E30 M3's. I've seen like 3 real ones in the last 5 years in California where E30's are a dime a dozen. They only imported a very limited number and a decent one will go for $20K

Im going to agree with those above me, if you've owned the m3 for 14 years you gotta keep that puppy, the turbo will not fill a void left by that car in your heart.
I could however see selling the 924s for a 944t, unless they are in absolutely amazing condition

In the communal stable of cars I've driven at tracks regularly is a completely stock e30 m3.
My fairly well modified 951 is light years quicker around any track.
The e30 is light years more fun to drive around any track. On ancient d40 dunlops, no less!
Literally the kind of car you can get in and drive at 9/10ths all day with a big fat grin on your face. Yeah it's not the fastest but god is it fun. You want to drive a pure racing line? No problem. You want to get really sideways in every corner? No problem. You want to find the edge of the envelope and dip your toe in? No problem.
Great great car.

Keep the E30 M3! Especially if you have had it for that long. I love 951's but an E30 M3 is one of the best times you can have in a car, and like everyone else has said, they will only go up in value.
