i cant remember when the k27/8 spooled up but it was higher then the turbonetics non bb, and the garrett bb will spool up a little faster then that still.

I have thought of the K27/8 as well but only would go with it for a race car. If you do a search for the K27/6 or even the K27/8 you will pull up quite a bit of threads of people talking about it. A K27/6 should spool VERY close to a K26/6 turbo and pick up 20-30rwhp on the car (depending on other mods of course). From what I understand, the K27/6 can spool faster (more boost at lower RPM) then a K26/8 but you have to figure that most K27/6 owners also go to MAF, injectors, etc. all of which help get boost on lower RPM's. I still really think what way I want to go for my turbo upgrade this fall/winter, I know many that run K27/6 that are happy and same with K27/8, it all depends on where you want the power and how fast you want spool up. MANY have said that K27/6 is awesome for the road compared to K27/8 due to much faster boost build up.

yeah tht makes sense. i would buy a k27/6 over the k27/8 just for the spoolup. but i have 90% convinced myself that the garrett BB is the one i will get. it does require a few mods to fit, the oil inlet needs a mod and different adapters on the cooland passages, which is very easy to do.

Yea, I want something that has a good spool but a larger top end then K27/6, so I am looking else where as well. Let me know how that works out for you. I am sure if the hit the Lotto that I will have an order for Vitesse Stage II the next day!

Initial impressions are very encouraging on the turbonetics to4e 50 stage 3 wheel #8 hotside. It pulls like a train in comparison to the k26/8 as you would expect. Only running 16psi at this stage, next step will be to install 52# injectors so i have enough fuel to explore the redline area. Boost build starts earlier and gets to 1 bar at 3k, build up is smooth too. I'm running the lindsey stage 2 MAF and maf chips that i have developed specifically for this sensor. Have thermal wrapped hotside, down pipe and crossover. Installation involved modifying water pipe, brackets etc, a slight mod to the mount was also required aparently. Will get it to the dyno in the next month for some definative results. Did 700km over the weekend, no oil use or any problems thus far. In summary, very happy with the upgrade, its going to be a fast car.

Jet, I'm very interested to know what you end up going with, not only as far what turbo you get, but also which injectors, maf, chips, etc you go with overall to make this upgrade work. I'll probably be doing something similar to this next winter..
EDIT: Question about chips... If you get "maf" chips from say.. Vitesse, does it matter which turbo and maf you go with? Also, you don't have to have a piggy back with this, right?

I'm gonna admit to not having a lot of knowledge about spool up times and a/r ratios, but I will say this: I've been reliably informed that the turbonetics hotside will be made of cheese. Avoid.
There is a company here in the UK who make custom turbos for all sorts of applications, and have a very good reputation, who refuse to build a turbo with a "T" hotside. I could expect them to not put their name to it, but to flat out refuse says something about them.....

Pauerman discussed these prior to putting them on his website recently, however I am not clear if anyone has tried one yet since they are so new. I would like to know the spool up advantage over the 360 degree thrust bearing design. Has Pauerman sold any of these to date and if so did he comment on the results.

you could go with the .63 T3 hotside with the stg 3 wheel; it would take some mods to put on but the two people I remember doing it said they really liked it.

The GT30R w/KKK housing is a great turbo (I have one, which I finally finished installing). Not well suited for fast spool up, but great top end. Needless to say there are a couple of modifications needed to make this turbo actually fit in our cars (Oil feed line, Coolant Fittings, Turbo Mount, Crossover pipe [Needs to be extended/angled]) to name a few. If you’re up for a project, then definitely go for it. It’s not a trouble free install however, so don’t be mislead. I'll have some more feedback on the turbo once I finish the rest of the modifications I decided to do at the same time. If your interested in more detailed information shoot me a PM, I'd be glad to chat.

I wouldn't go with the 3076r unless you want at least 400rwhp at some point. It's rated at 525hp by Garrett, and I have seen people making 500+rwhp with these. I'd say go for the 3071r variant, as it has a slightly smaller compressor wheel, it will spool faster, and is still good for over 400rwhp if you really want to run high boost and race gas.
Gt30r's can be very quick spooling on 2.5l i4's. I believe Edman951 was reaching 1bar at about 3200rpm, and he's on a 3076r w/ a .63 exhaust I believe. That's fairly quick spooling IMO, considering how much power it is good for.

I'm going to be purchasing a Turbonetics 60-1 with a KKK #8 hotside. Similar to the Lindsey Racing Super61. From Kevin (por951turbo)'s dyno sheet at a untuned 15psi 300RWHP will be easily attained.
Slitghtly bigger than the 50trim Jet, but should have similar characteristics.

all this turbo talk and hp numbers.. someone should start a thread specifically to showcase different turbos on their 951 with dyno charts, list of all mods and boost numbers. Oh, and lots of pics!
