Hey guys..
A few points of clarification.
It's an 2002 LS1 Vette engine with headers, cam, stiff valve springs, titanium retainers, lightweight push rods, and a custom ecu and a single 3" exhaust.
It is expected to be well into the 450+ Hp range.
Drove it today. The car sounds like a Ferrari getting on it down Ventura Blvd in Studio City.
It only had 255/17's on it, but can at a fraction of a second response from the time you blip the throttle, cause the back to go sidways in 1st and 2nd (didn't try it in 3rd). The thing is BAD-***.
We just fitted a set of black powder coated Cup2 wheels (2 sets of rear 9" wheels) with Hoosier 275/17's around today. Corner balanced it (51/49 with 1/3 tank of fuel) and aligned it.
It's 2640lbs with 1/3 tank of fuel.
All I can say is that I wish I had done this a LONG time ago. And, I wish I would have kept it a full street car because it would, without a doubt, be my everyday street car for a LONG time.
I also wish it had the 600Hp engine in it.. mu ha ha.
I think we're going to do a few more of these.
Did you guys check those RacersEdge front control arms? Recognize the trick rear axles? :-)
Costs are about $6k for the engine complete, $6k for the conversion pieces (minimum) and about $6k labor to do the install. So roughly you're looking at about $18k depending on a few things... but that's a close "by the time you're done" number.

Tony - could you tell me what offset the Cup2's you are running in the front. I am getting a set of CCW wheels and want to run 275's in front and need to figure out the offset.

They are the standard 17x9 Cup 2 wheel which is a 993 take-off wheel. I don't know what the offset is, but you can find it out pretty easily. All the ones we have, have had the size and offset grinded off when the wheels were either polished or powerder coated.
You have to run 2 degrees of negative to get them to clear the fenders, but that's obviously not a problem for a track car.

I would think, that the conversion would be the same on both cars.
However, since you can get a "ratty" 951 for about $3k-$4k, it really doesn't make much sense to go any way but the turbo way.
With the turbo you get the turbo trans (with gearing that is much more appropriate for V8), a stronger trans, better suspension and brakes, and a more updated body.
But to answer your question, the actual conversion would be the same process.

For now, a simple 993TT rotor and 993 TT Caliper up front, and a stock 944T caliper in the rear and a 968 M030 rear cross drilled disk on the rear, with Pagid Blue pads all around.
We'll see how that works on this coming Wednesday when our next track day at WSIR (small track) is held.

Are you still useing the stock 944 transaxle and gearbox? Would the 928 be stronger? Which torque is the max for stock drive shafts, have seen you swapped to GKN?

Welcome to the club. Ive had that combination (2002 LS1 V8) for a year an a half and the only regret I have is not having done it sooner. Were we differ is that Im using a 968 6-speed and Im getting ready to get a taller ring and pinion to keep the tight gear spacing and have a lower rpm cruising speed. Im also reseaching the posibility of getting an electric brake booster to get assisted brakes.
