Well, 200 posts and lots of opinions/flames later, I have a better understanding of the cost of the Vitesse Turbos (not S1).

This argument was never about Porsche products bringing justifiably higher prices (as one poster claimed), but instead about the cost of a Turbocharger (No tuning, Electronics, etc)..just a Turbocharger which any car employing a T3 manifold could theoretically buy and install. **Just wanted to get that out of the way**

I dont feel this thread was worthless, as some have stated, as although no proprietary information was divulged by Vitesse (which I can 50% agree with) my question about the cost was answered, and many opinions were shared regarding the spool and power characteristics of the VR turbos contrasted by the spool and power characteristics of the LR Super 61 turbo, etc.

I can agree that tuning, injectors, other misc. parts can be more expensive for a Porsche, and if John has the clip the exhaust wheel (to reduce spool), modify the oil and water fittings (for the turbo to fit a 951), maybe play with compressor wheel housing (guessing), then perhaps his turbos justify their cost.

I want to thank everyone who posted in this thread as I feel to have gained a good bit of insight into VR kits, as well as experiences of those with the kits, and those with other kits.

My latest boostchart.

15psi at 2939rpm
16psi at 3032rpm.

Still maybe a bit too rich here and there.

How much have you played with the SMT-6? How accurate are John's chips right out of the box?

I set the FQS to #1 (+5% fuel). I run a static 3Bar FPR.
All the cells on the SMT6 software are zeroed out (0).

The curve below is a bit jagged; this is just raw data from my wideband. (no smoothing).

I like the way you capture the data, to a fraction of AFR.

AFR is where I had it set in the chip 11.5-12:1 under WOT. You can fine tune it a bit and be dead on 11.8:1

Thanks John. Would there not be any advantage to tuning it a bit leaner for a dead-on 12:1 AFR. Or is that begging for scary EGTs?

Thanks.

We vary the AFR based on various conditions. I prefer 11.5-11.8:1AFR under heavy load.

And what are safe EGT's about 1,400 or is that too high?

Just read the Autoweek article about the new 911 Turbo with VGT Variable Geometry Turbo. Said the challenge was making one that would continue to work in exhaust temps of 1800 F.

people complain of Vitesse turbo's cost - think of how much Porsche's new VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) will cost!!! But boost at 1,200 RPM does sound good. Each individual fin is designed to change its angle according to the motor speed/ air velocity.
