Default Considering this 951????

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...00&cardist=441

The dealer is getting back to me first thing tomorrow morning with the maintenance records and the list of options. I was really looking for an 89 but with the low mileage on this car I think I can live with it, I'm hoping it has the LSD. If he comes back with an excellent maint. history and the LSD I'll probably shoot him an offer and put a deposit down tomorrow or do you guys think I should hold out for an 89?

not a huge fan of the wheels, but the car looks clean

but if an '89 is really what you want, don't settle for less unless you have really decided that it is worth it to you

I think you could get two beater 89's for that price.

Actually a bridge and a unicorn come free with this car that has only 88k miles!

Nice car, but wow....that's a premium, premium price. If you want a "collector"--to keep for PCA concours or something then maybe it's worth it. But if you want a driver and/or a hot-rod 951, you can certainly do a lot better for the $$. In fact there has been an '86 advertised around San Francisco, (I'm in L.A.) that looks pretty pristine to me and the guy, who is a dealer also, is asking $13K. Ooops...I just called him and they sold it this weekend. Anyway, if you willing to spend $15K and can wait... ;-) you can get more car....but if you want those super-low miles, then this one may be it--they are few and far between. My .02.

Let me know if you want me to keep an eye out for an '89 out here in la-la land. Sometimes it's worth the $1000-1200 to have one shipped. ;-).

That's a long a$$ drive out there I'd kinda like to find one a little closer so I could go pick it up in person but if there's something worth shipping I'd consider it.

That's a VERY stout price, especially for an '86.

I'd keep looking. A guy reported here a couple of days ago that he found an '86 for $2,100 in decent shape. At his price, he can make all the mods and maintenance to make his car super, and do it right, for half the price of this one.

Some people say to buy as much 951 as you can afford, with the mods and maintenance already done. Maybe so. But, in that scenario, how can you be sure such work was really done, and done right, if you did not do it yourself? For me, it seems better to get a basically solid but cheaper car, then invest in upgrades as budget permits.

If you want to leave the car bone stock you should definitely wait for the 89. In my opinion once you mod an 89, you have detracted from the car which you paid a premium for in the first place. The price on the 86 really seems way to high. With the way the market is I am positive you could buy an "S" for 14k or 15k. It would almost certainly have more miles, but I would rather have a car with 90k miles with a recent clutch and other service, than to take a chance on a lower mileage car that may need more work because of stting around. If you could buy that 86 for the right price, it would probably make a good car, but there may be some surprises.

Thanks for all the responses. I don't plan on doing a whole bunch of mods to the car, maybe in the future. But is it worth the wait for an 89 to get all of the options that the 86 won't have? Like a few of you guys have said I would much rather know that the car has been taken care of then have low mileage and no records. Thanks for all the help.
