Per Scott Hair, the guy who did my car polishing last week, mine is a single-stage, no clearcoat.. and according to him, all RED 944's are that way (almost all RED cars pre-90's are single stage he said). Plus I think I've read that they are all that way, except maybe any metallic colors.

I believe all the metallic colors have to be two-stage by nature. I'm fairly certain my silver 944 is, since the clear has begun to peel away in places, necessitating a respray of the entire car Anyway, I echo what's said here about the base (non-metallic) colors being single-stage. That's my understanding as well.

All solid colours on our cars back then were single stage paint and ALL metallics and pearls are two stage paint...i.e.. clearcoat on top.

Gaurd's red is definately single stage... metallics are definately dual stage.

I repainted with single stage...
