I searched for a solution to my problem but couldn't find any answers. I just installed my clear signal lenses - they look great by the way - and after the installation I tested my lights. Here is what I found out:
With the headlights off the turn signals work fine with the front bulbs, front side markers, rear side markers and rear tails flashing as they should.
With the headlights on or the park lights on nothing flashes - even the interior dash flash indicator doesn't light up.

Good question. Is it possible to install them backwards? I always thought they were dummy proof - IE: put them in and twist. If they light it's done right. If they don't light then contact isn't being made with the base of the bulb. Why would it matter which way they go in and why would it make a difference if the headlights were on or off?

They are dual filement bulbs. They have two different wattage's. If you put them in backwards; and you can do that; it could cause them to light irratically or not at all.
Remove the bulb and look at it. You will notice (if you have the correct bulbs) that there are two metal **** on the side of the base of the bulb. One is right near the bottom and the other is part way up toward the glass. Look at the socket and make sure you are indexing the bulb correctly. They will only work correctly one way.

Chris: Looks like you were right....sort of. I pulled one of the bulbs and noticed that the metal **** were at the same height on both sides. I then held one up to a light (the bulbs are silver tinted) and noticed that there is only 1 wire. That would probably explain why I get flashing only with the lights off. I'm assuming that one wire flashes when the lights are on and the other wire flashes when they are off. Correct?

Update: Just for those who might find this in the archives. The solution was to put the proper bulbs in that have the two wires and the metal **** where one of them is higher than the other. I got my bulbs from Paragon Products at $25 a pair.
