Is the Holbert car real? Real in the sense that it is a obviously a stout race car, yes. Real in the sense that it reflects the original engineering, fabrication and specification as imported by Holbert Motors, not on your life.
Anyone looking for a turn-key 944 based race car would be very well served to purchase and campaign this car...but it's Holbert heritage is only a side-bar point of interest since it has been so completely re-engineered.
The OE Matter cage is indeed a cool novelty and rare as hen's teeth. Matter made all the Turbo Cup and eary Carrera Cup roll bars and cages and was even listed as a series sponsor in 86 European Turbo Cup. I have a series championship poster of same listing Dunlop, Shell, Matterand Bosch as such. Familiar names in the series included Roland Asch, Kurt Thiim, Joachim Winklehock and Jorg van Ommen...all of whom become DTM and Carrera Cup stars during the 1990's.
So does it have a hook to history. Yes. Is that the reason to buy it. No.

PS, If any of you happen to have a Matter roll bar or roll cage for the 944 for sale, let me know!!!! My Turbo S has mounting holes in the rear fender wells that we suspect might fit same. Have entertained the idea of getting Stable Energies fabricate a custom unit to match the mounts. To the best or our collective energies, our gang has traced my car back to a possible first owner (Paul Foster) who may have campaigned the car in NE PCA Club Racing events under the flag of 8 Ball Racing. Roll bar was gone by the time the documented chain of ownership began.

Talk to me, Chris! We've traced ownership of 89 Turbo KN150758 back to Andrew Gissonia from NJ who may have had some association with Stable Energies. The car was sold new by Jack Daniels Motors, in NJ Would love to know if this is the same car that Paul Foster raced at the Glen and Summit Point and maybe elsewhere in the 90's. Car is definitely a track survivor, if for no other reason than the amount of pitting in the paint on all the front facing panels, the bar mount holes and carpet slices.
Reciepts go back to 92, some of them show employee or wholesale discounts on parts and upgrades purchased from Town Motor Cars in Englewood, NJ and Prestige Motors in NY.
Car is low miles, only 64K when it entered our family.

I was at the PCA club race at the Glen back in the 90s (I go to almost all the PCA Glen races) and took that picture – I think Paul Foster was on the old Porschelist mailing list and I sent him a copy of the shot. Other than that I don’t know much about Paul or the car – other than it leaned a lot in the corners!
