Default Sylvania 158 or 194?

I'm doing the dash light reflector thing to my cluster -- I'd like to use the 3.8v sylvania 194 bulbs for more light, but see a few posts where people have suggested that's too much and that 158's (3.3v) are safer to use. Anyone ever have a problem with 194 bulbs -- anyone running them now without problms?

I've run the 194 for years on a couple cars. Great improvement over the stock crap.

Thanks Sam -- I just did it in record time using the 194's, aluminum foil, duct tape, and brakeclean. A huge improvement. I did the tunnels on a differnent panel in the past, without the brighter bulbs, and I got an improvement, but nothing like doing the tunnels and increasing the bulbs wattage at the same time. Napa had the bulbs in stock for pennies too.

BTW, Brakeclean makes fast work of removing the old silver paint, but it eats into the black plastic, so you need to be careful with it.

Clark's recommends 194, so I've been using that. His write-up actually has comments on all bulbs that fit: http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/elect-08.htm

Tom: I used chrome spray on my reflectors, and i also used 'cool blue' LED's and the effect was crazy.

I tried taking pictures, but i couldn't get a good shot (camera doesn't really justify what they really look like).

Note: If you searched ebay for the 194 LED replacement bulbs, you will find them, but those are not what i used, but similar.
