Default Help identify turbo

These are the numbers on the tag, but we don't know if it is a k26/6 or 8. All others that we compare to have differant numbers.

atl nr 87 216 0663
ausf nr 5326 970 6720

It doesn't have a part number on the first line.

See www.clarks-garage.com for a write-up on identifying the two. There's a flat spot on one of the housing (forget which at the moment - there's a picture) that can be seen while the turbo is still on the car. If it's off the car it's that much easier. Cheers!

Interesting,
I am honored having my (turbo) picture and distinguishing characteristics repeated in Clark’s Garage, see here , post #4.
I have often used CG so a little “snatching” is most welcomed.

When I asked this 2 years ago the only way I could tell was the blue tag. "If" yours has a part number (top row) the K26/8 will end in an 03. It made me feel better about the loss of all the upgrade receipts the PO discovered 'after' I bought the car. The lack of a flat spot holds true on mine also.

Thanks everyone. It appears to be a number 6 hotside to our surprise. Anyone ever see a k26/6 put down 334ft/lb of torque?

Well, anyone? My mods include Ape Stage II chips, Bursch test pipe, Borla catback, Lindsey BOV. Ready for the shocker, motor has 225K! My words for the day were "hold together baby!"

You can identify hotside easily. There's a number stamped INSIDE the turbine inlet, about 1cm of the edge. Clean it and you'll see. If it's 6, you've got #6 hotside, if it's 8, then it's #8 hotside.
