60% Show/Street 40% Track - Can I do this to the body?
Okay guys, how much does the chassis flex in the upper regions? I'm planning on welding in sections to the body above the passenger window to fill in that gap and cut the window frame off (the door) and weld that into the body and have the door that opens just the big part at the bottom. Also I'm going to blend the seam that goes down by the windshield I think this is called a drip rail or something? This car will never be parked in a parking lot, and will only be street legal enough to drive around a bit. So I'm thinking of doing lexan manual side windows. Basically I'm trying to smooth some lines, I photo chopped a few pics to show what i'm talking about. What do you guys think? Has anyone else done this? Opinions Welcome!

It can be done. They do it to the early mustangs. the take off the 1/4 glass. Same concept here on the 951. I have to look for the pictures i took. Planning to do it for Shelby.

Well I don't want to loose the 1/4 glass, i'm going to get some lexan and mount it flush with the body line so I loose the big stupid seal and black the edges out where it will be secured to the body, I'm refering to the seam above the 1/4 window. and taking the window frame off of the door * see revised seam at the bottom of the A-pillar.

Yeah its the same thing. But they just put a bigger glass. What you have to do what i have seen is that you have to renforce it on the inside. Like putting a small bar in between the inside of the panels. You know what i mean. You are putting a roll cage correct?? Because then the roof will be supported

Yeah I'm going for a cage that goes up through the dash. Do you think this will "bastardize" the Porsche? I'm going for something so clean, that at a PCA show and shine/ dealership it'll get maaaaad attention, the good kind.

Seriously I much perfer that mod to the wide fenders. I am on for stock and purity and removing the cut line seems like great idea to me. That area is rather clunky. As for the windows I think the 968 had flush mount windows. They are shaped different so I don't know that you would want to use them, but I think it will look good.
Honeslty to me the 944 and 951 is already a wide body so going wider seems exceesive to me. Even on a big hp race car I would try hard to keep the standard 944 body width only going with a widebody if I really needed the extra tire. However it is you car and your tastes and you can't please everyone.

Purity...ahhh yes...but a blend of Porsche History! The 968 Turbo RS, if I'm not mistaken has these flares...and these are a modded copy of those. Note the side skirts? Anyways...I take it this is something that can be achieved by a competent body shop no worries?

Nope, the 968 Turbo race cars did not have those flares. I think you need to make a serious choice of either SHOW or TRACK. You'll never be able to comprimise and keep yourself satisfied. You really need to sit down and make a list of what you want to use the car for, and what it needs to do that. Personally, I think you're shooting for a street/show car. If you want something for the track, buy a track rat or forget using this as a street car.

ONE day at the track and it'll be hard to make your car a show car. I've picked up small chips in the nose of my car from the track and cracked a fog light lens with a pebble as well.

968trs race car. As was said before, you REALLY need to decide the use of this car. There is no such thing as a show/part time race car. Those two things are oil and water, by definition.

I have seen those flares on the cars before...I forget the history or lineage...but here is always a good source for 968 rs info.

As far as elongating the windows...find a corpse shell and practice first.
And some others for fun.

Thanks testa...i finally figured it out. Getting everything welded on my next trip to the US. Found a shop that can trim the window edgings and install later 996 units that will roll the window down a touch when the handle is lifted.
