Is there supposed to be an O-ring on my 86' OPRV?
I am at a stand still with my oil filter housing reseal job. My oil pressure relief valve is obviously the original style since basically its a hollowed out sleeve that has a long spring sliding inside of it and then compressed from the bolt that holds it in. I don't know if there is supposed to be an o-ring on the end of it or not. 944 online doesn't sell an o-ring for an 86' style like mine, and mine definately is nothing like the updated ones. There is a groove on the end of my mine but its not a definative groove, its more of a rounded out groove that isn't very deep. And there was no o-ring on it when I pulled it out, so I don't know if there was one that just fell apart inside, or if it doesn't have one period. Can anyone please enlighten me lol.

35thSLP- What did you end up doing? Did you install it without an o-ring? Also did you install your housing gasket dry, or did you put any kind of sealant on it? Just wondering, since we are both working on the same project this weekend.

there is no o-ring on the original 3 piece valve. Make sure the valve/piston and the bore are clean, oil the piston and install it with a new crush ring on the end cap

I installed mine just like it came out. I oiled it with fresh oil and slipped it right in. I used some gasket tack to hold it in place as I put it on. I put that on the ears where the bolts go through the housing. So I guess you could say the gasket went on dry since I did not put any of the tack on the gasket.
