Default Pitting on head surface

When I pulled my turbo head a while back, the head gasket was rotted beyond belief. Don Istook helped me pull it and commented that it's the worst that he's ever seen. There were also several pits in the head surface where the water/coolant started to eat the aluminum after it got through the gasket. The cylinder tops and block look fine - no pits there.

Don had the head re-surfaced, and it cleaned up pretty well. None of the pits will be in areas where the gasket seals, not even using wide-fire ring contact patches.

My question is this: Should I do anything to the existing pits before re-assembling? I'm sure the corrosion was caused by poor coolant maintenance by the PO, I'll definitely keep that up-to-spec once it's re-assembled. Is there anything else that I should to to prevent those pits from growing?

Thanks!
