Default Cometic Oring Pictures

OK folks, here are the pics of the new Cometic Head gasket I promised. I like the concept and execution. The ‘main’ part of the gasket is just there to hold the O- ring in place and seal the water and oil areas. The cylinder sealing is handled by the O-ring.
The specs on the O-ring are pretty cute – it is silver coated with an internal inert gas pressure of 600 psi.
Enjoy the pictures…

BTW - the engine in the pics is a 105.5mm bore. These headgaskets will work from stock size up to 106mm.

That looks pretty cool. So does this work in a non-grooved head and block? Are there any disadvantages that you can think of?

Chris, is that O ring sit in a groove. What keeps it from moving all around when your installing the head?

No groove – it has to be used on a flat surface. If you look at the installed pic you can see one cylinder has the oring in place and the other does not. The rest of the head gasket holds the O-ring in place. The O-ring is a precision fit inside the cylinder hole in the head gasket.
If your head is already O-ring the conventional way you can leave the O-ring in place and skim cut the head.

The only draw back…the head gasket only comes in .051” thickness. Not a big deal, especially if you are sleeving because you can spec out the piston height to match. For standard block engine you will lose a little compression. (not enough to notice).

The other drawback is it will cost somewhere around $250…

The gasket out side of the O-ring is exactly the same as the MLS gasket.

Are the size limit – the largest O ring is a little over 106mm ID, so it is pretty much a 106mm limit.
They are available now, at least I can get them anyway!

About 1/10 the value of the , , , , , and involved with replacing a toasted HG. I say good engineering and piece of mind is worth the money. Love to hear some long term use stories as they develop.

What other fun stuff is brewing?

I checked with Cometic – the final price on the gasket is $258.50 and they do have the parts in stock now. If anybody is interested let me know, whitechristopher@earthlink.net

A disclaimer is needed here – While I really like the technology in the gaskets I have not done any personal testing yet – there is a fresh foot of snow outside, I don’t expect to really test one until my first track event in May. I may book some dyno time before then but I don’t really feel like a part has been tested until it gets a couple of track days of run time!

ALL HANDS!
re-read Chris' disclaimer. This thread has shown some bandwagon action. It's worth having Chris' additional feedback after he has had the chance to run the **** out of one or two of these, before jumping on them...but it's your cash.

Sounds great Chris. Question is that the same as the ultimate head gasket on Guru racing website? I was trying to get a response on the site but nothing yet. Are they still in business?
