Upgrading the clutch
#16
A clutch is something I'd like to do once. Rather, I think I'll take the car and pile of parts to a shop and have them do it. No desire to go there, much of a "DIY" mentality person though I may be. . . I ain't that much of a masochist.

I just confirmed what I had suspected, the friction material looked fine, but the center section had failed. So in my experience, if you go easy on the starts, a Cup clutch will last about 4 years (probably 80 track days with 2 drivers).

Im still deciding on if i should get the KEP pp with the 930 clutch or the 6 puck copper/ceramic ST and many other people have. I just am not sure how streetable the 6 puck clutch is, some peoples definitions are different than others. I know its a long job and i want to make sure i get the right clutch and not have to do it again.

I hear you Tim, I sent an email out to Patrick Motorsports about the Bronze puck disc that Jimbo was talking about and also an email out to Clutchnet about their Carbon-type discs. I will report back what they have to say. I would say with the KEP you could go with a less aggressive disc and still harness the power. Are you going to get the Stage 2 or Stage 1 PP?

You see on the left, stock PP with Cup disc, right is KEP with 930 disc. The KEP one is a 2.8L, VR IV kit at 16 psi and doing great. Notice the size differenc in the PP vanes and the heat treatment on the KEP unit.
I'm installing a stock PP with 930 disc in a car now that will run the LR 340 kit but at only 15-16 psi.
Just some pics for those interested and sorry for this picture quality, Porsche RSR copper disc in the track car.
