Cool South easterners!! Talladega gran prix raceway on Tuesday. [UPDATE] PICS!

Some of my friends and I are heading to the track on Tuesday, and we need two more people to get 10. We don't have any official instructors or anything, but I think that one or two of the guys going are instructors.. maybe.

Edit: Was going to be on monday, but the administrator person cancelled and moved it to tuesday.

Anyways, the cost is $100 cash. Like I said, we can only take two more people since this track is small and we'll only run three people at a time. We're effectively renting the track for the whole day.

We'll likely try to get there early morning (like 8am or something) and will go for the rest of the day.

I don't know everyone going (my friend is organizing it) but there will be a wide variety of cars there.. couple 2nd gen rx7's, an e30, maybe a wrx. Should be a blast.

Any takers? By the way, please don't say your gonna come and then cancel.. We're basically splitting the cost of $1000 ten ways, so if you say you'll come, but don't, everyone else is out some extra cash because of it.

EDIT: Here's the track's site with a pic --> http://tgprace.com/

This is a fun little track, you can run more than 3 if you want.

Wish I had more notice, would like to have gone.

Yeah, sorry for the late notice, we had some guys cancel. This would be a great thing to do with a dozen 951's or so maybe in the new year I'll get a group of p-cars to go

Nice track and you can run more than 3....probably 8 maybe 10 just keep passing to a minimum. My 951 is a lot of fun there.

Hmmm 424 miles says mapquest. I'll think about it over dinner.

I think just usual tech inspection stuff (and a helmet obviously), but the other guys can probably give you a better more detailed explanation. For ours, just make sure your car is in good working order and doesn't leak anything

ivai, I would love to come out and run with you guys, but I just don't have the time during this break. I have to go to DC on thursday and I have a bunch of other nonsense to do for school. Have fun.

A bunch of us from work were just over there a few weeks ago, it was a blast! The track can be hard on tires but well balanced cars like ours faired pretty well. Other things that were front heavy didn't fair nearly as well... the STI had to rotate his tires after each 20 minute session, the EVO had the weirdest tire wear I've ever seen. A C5 that was pushing it completely eat a brand new set of brake pads...

Anyway it's a fun course for ours cars because you can leave it in 3rd gear for the whole track so its great for first timers to learn braking and turning...and rule number 1 is don't brake into the turn.

Good luck, I wish I could come, we'll probably do one in the spring again.

I drove it counter-clockwise and had my car in 3rd the entire lap. I could shift to 4th some coming near the end of the back stretch and at the end of the front stretch but i went just as fast leaving it in 3rd and carrying more speed through the turns. I wore the outside of my right tires pretty good and the inside of my front left. My brakes did excellent. It is a good place to learn the limit and to not have to brake going into the turn. The right (correct) line is pretty crucial. The skid pad area probably eats up the tires as it is a constant radius off-camber turn.

psticjne,

Check out your local region Porsche Club of America site and you will find what you need for PCA DE events. What state are you in?

We ran it clockwise, that was the only direction with brake markers. I couldn't brake into any turns really with the LSD and 928 bias valve...

It would be nice to run it both ways and even out some tire wear but for novices (like me) you can spend all day just learning one direction, several of those turns are very tricky.
