As long as you get the ones that close if oil pressure gets too low. Otherwise, you may be increasing the chances of a rod bearing failure during starving for oil situations by having squirters.

The Porsche and Kelly Motorsports squirters close at 3 or 4 bar, I can’t remember which. If you find some that do not have the spring loaded check valve – run away from those!

$50/piece seems high. You can get the following BMW squirters for ~$10/ea:

http://e30m3performance.com/installs...s-3/squirters/ (look at the 618 squirters)

Do you think these might work? ~$200 for the job versus ~$400 would be nice. I have heard estimates of 120F of cooling at the piston top. That is pretty significant in the world of detonation prevention.

Possibly, but the first guy to try will spend more than the difference to figure it out!
See if you can get exact sizes and I will compare them to the Porsche units.

Can they be removed? There must be dozens of them in trashed 1987 928S4 blocks that have suffered TBF.

They don't like to come out - I think they are loctited in place. Usually they get trashed.
