Question What to do with black wire on antenna connector for stereo??

I have done a few searchs but can't find a clear answer. I am in the process of restoring the factory stereo harness from years of butchering and I have everything back to stock except the thin black wire that comes off the thick antenna connector. Someone has cut the plug off of it and I don't know what to do with it. Should that be run into a power supply, or is it a ground? Any help would be great!

BTW- I bought a 944 harness connector for my new alpine CD player from crutchfield made for the 944 and it fits perfect, if anyone has been wondering about it.

From my 944 tech tip book it states..."Whenever the radio is replaced on 1985.5 and later 944s, the antenna booster wire from the antenna must be connected to the electric antenna outlet on the radio, or else poor reception will result." I believe that's the wire you're asking about. Kevin

Yup, it is the ant signal booster. Hook it to switched ignition power or if the radio supports it, the remote amp switch or automatic ant output.

So should I just run this to the switched power or can I run it into the amp wire coming off the stereo?

autox951:

Your 944 tech tip book, is that a factory book or is it that red 924/944 technical tips book that Automobile Atlanta sells? Thanks...

Which model is it? My car as the optional 10 speaker system with a Blaupunkt graphic EQ and my stereo went bad. I'd like to replace it while keeping everything else as stock as possible.

The harness I got was just for the 4 speaker setup, but you might want to check with them and ask what they say, they may have something for you. I wonder how the wiring is on the 10 speaker setup? I know my E36 BMW had the full Harmon Kardon Sound system which consists of 10 speakers but the adapter harness they sell for the E36 plugs right in and runs all speakers whether its the HK with 10 speakers or the regular stereo with 6 speakers.

are we sure that's a power line for the antennae, and not a ground wire to cancel noise interference?

I just left mine unhooked, and am suffering from poor radio reception...I would definitely like to hook this to power if that's what it requires

It is power for the antenna. Since the antenna is in the widshield it is amplified. Hook the wire up to the blue wire off the new radio. This lead gives out power when the radio is turned on. Chas you are getting bad reception because you did not hook it up. give it power and you will see better reception.

Anyone have a picture of this wire? It seems to be plain missing on mine and my FM reception just plain sucks.
Thanks in advance,
