Why the different ring grooves?

Not sure, he just said they were a tad smaller but the gaps would be the same clearance that Porsche had for the bores.

[QUOTE=Ski]The thing with the 3.0L crank is you really need Carillo or Pauter rods to miss the oil pan and the sides of the block, which adds $1100 or more and the crank. Here is a picture of Jim's 2.8 build with Carillo rods and 101 Tom C pistons. Take a look at the rod clearence

I guess that would count me out then :-(
Thanks Bret anyway

Is this a one time only production run?
Will they be available in the future?

depends on if the vendor chooses to do so but yes they should be available in the future, it's just that there is a minimum order capacity but I bet if he sells out of the first run he will get more to have on hand.

Why didn't this come together a year ago?!?!
Damn....
Can't buy pistons now.
Great idea however, best of luck with this.
I like the valve relief idea, definately worth it IMO. Lets you really stretch your timing belt change intervals without worry. Exactly what skirt coating would be used?

price target is less than $1300. coating will be Ferroprint iron coating, similar to Ferrostan(original) but the waste from coating process is more evironmentally friendly.

Bret,

Just posted my "yes" vote (would actually prefer a set of 1st overs but would probably take a set of whatever the first batch was).

Funny this came up now... I stumbled across your old, original post on these a couple of days ago and almost dredged it up to ask if it ever went anywhere... good timing!

Don, Jim and myself are about to do two engines in two different locations - one in Corpus and one in Heber. One guy got the Tom C pistons the other wanted OEM if we needed them and could find them, so I got on the phone.

No 97.1mm stroke 3-liters out there... ... - 4.55mm interference engine isn't much better though...
