TIA.

Thanks Joe, since you have more NA's then anyone I know I have a quick question for you. Do the 86 turbo front calipers/rotors bolt up to the NA's?

Hey Jeremy,

Since Joe logged out, mind if I answer?

Yes, they do bolt up, but you also need the 951 spindle/hub/rotor for the appropriate year (early/late offset correllation). The bolt patterns where the calipers mount to the spindles are different for N/A compared to 951 cars.

If this is for an early 944 (pre-87), you will need to swap the 951 struts over to the N/A 944 as well, as the spindle/strut interface for the early N/A cars is different compared to the turbo cars. The struts measurements for the mounts were standardized acrossed the board from 87-onward.

Someone check the factory manual, to confirm (I dont have mine with me at work) - but here is what I think you will find:

1) Spring rates for the various springs used on all standard 944 n/a, S, and Turbo: 21.8 N/mm = 125 lbs/in

There are several different part numbers for use with different MYs, different struts, and different ride heights (and different tolerance groups for each), but they are the same rate. They are color coded by part number and tolerance group.

For example, the overall tolerance range for the springs could be in the range of 120-130 lb/in. So a single dot spring will be closer to 120 lb/in, a two dot spring around 125 lb/in, and a three dot will be closer to 130 lb/in. That way the springs can be matched/paired to have very close rates side to side. The factory manual gives the exact rate ranges at a given spring compression height, and color code schemes for the various springs

2) Cars with sport suspension M030 option (and Turbo S cars) had springs that are 28.0 N/mm = 160 lbs/in.

3) S2s (non-M030) I recall have a spring rate that is somewhere in the 23 N/mm range (130-140 lb/in) to match their 24.0mm rear torsion bars.

EDIT - Here are the factory rates:

944/924S rates are 21.8 N/mm
924S/Early 944 w/ M030 - 24.1 N/mm
Late 944 w/ M030 - 28.0 N/mm
944S - 21.8 N/mm
944S2 - 23.8 N/mm
944S2 w/ M030 - 28.0 N/mm
944T - 21.8 N/mm
944TS (M030) - 28.0 N/mm

To close the loop, (non-M030) 968 and 968 CS had 28 N/mm constant spring rate (vs progressive rate for M030 springs).
