Just incase anyone is interested in other options, here is what I am going with. Not to stomp on the price of $1400 for a set of pistons, but I can have rods and pistons for that cost.

Price is for (4) 8.5:1 C/R 104.5mm pistons, (4) Pauter rods. Build is 4 to 6 weeks from time of order.

Here is a potential source. I have no experience with these folks, and am not sure if they have them, but they do advertise them.

You can have any pistons coated. You can also have the sleeves coated as well. If your going to turbo your 3.0L, why are you going to skip out on the most important parts. If the Ross pistons aren't good enough, you can always order custom Venolia pistons with whatever silica content you would like to keep them as close to factory as possible at only $98/piston. I just can't see how a piston can be worth $350.

That's a good deal with a sleeved application, but the 968 turbo pistons were designed for non-sleeved alusil applications. After you buy sleeves at about 700-800 bucks, you are'nt saving much if any.

The iron/tin coating does not seem to be an aftermarket option and I do not know if anyone is sure that the other coatings will do the job. At least one person had a piston gall with an aftermarket coating.

I've wondered about this myself, as it kinda looks like the iron/tin gets worn off on higher mileage engines. Perhaps some of the piston coating transfers to the cylinder walls and the rest is up to the zinc, phosphorus or whatever's in the oil.
As long as you don't get galling and plan to blow the motor all to hell long before you get significant piston skirt wear, it might be OK to run uncoated aluminum pistons.

Call Performance Developments 949 646 7461. They have just developed Pistons for the stock bores. They are not standard sizes though. Not sure about the CR either. Need to ask them. These are special Pistons not made in the US.
