Thanks Nize. I now will be staying away from it, but I do want to use the normal MLS.

Stock studs, Wide fire, never had a problem I didn't deserve while pushing over 22psi. Only time I ever popped a head gasket was running on the track without race fuel. To much heat at that PSI of boost to run wide open for extended periods without race fuel. Other than that, 22psi....no sweat. FOR A DECADE.

Ok, since pulling my motor for a #2 rod bearing grenade I have changed to ARP's.....but the head gasket is wide fire. I just don't think they are weak. IMHO of course.

when you say you used stock head studs does that mean you bought new ones or re-used the originals?

Re-used the originals. I've heard stories of them eventually snapping which is why I switched to the ARP's since I already had the motor out and in pieces. Otherwise, I would have just kept rolling the dice until one snapped. Since I've owned the car I've had the head off approximately 5 times for various reasons. No idea if the previous owner ever had it off. I tend to doubt it being that I bought it at 89k miles and it was fairly pristine.

This is my category. No leaks.
I prefer MLS, but if not that I would vote stock rather than widefire.

Agree, resurface the head, make sure the block is straight and use some copper spray adhesive and silicon around the coolant passage area..

I would suggest that the same could be said for the stock or wide fire gasket.

You just need to make sure everything is CLEAN! Use some scotch brite until it shines... Then torque the bolts a few (10) extra ftlbs if using steel studs. Works perfectly!

Ive heard horror stories about that: ruined bearings by scotchbrite fibers that werent cleaned up 100% completely.

I think if you are careful..it might be a good technique.
