Question 968 Rear on 951 "possible project"????

How difficult would it be to mount a 968 rear end on a 951? Anyone done this? Any info is appreciated. Thinking about doing this to my 951 "RS"

Some one on here who i met at LimeRock has a race car set up with a 968 rear end. Looked really nice. Not sure how hard the processes was but it cant be TOO hard.

It is a lot of trouble actually. The bodyshop where I had my car painted, had done this to a local 944. The owner of the shop said it was a pain in the ***, because of the way the 968 bumper clips to the frame of the 968, and how the 944 has a totally different rear end. That said, it can still be done.

If you really want to make your 951 look special and more "RS", without going overboard, just do what I did to mine:

The RS stands for Rich Sandor.

Rich: Where did you get the "RS" emblem? Way cool.

Yeah the main reason for the 968 rear is due to the cleaner lines rather than 968 rs flares bolted directly to a 951 without this mod. I love the 951 front and the 968 rear...My car will have serious mental issues when completed...looking for its unique identity

the turbo emblem is from a 964 turbo 3.6, and the RS is from an RS america, I think. I just looked it up in the PET.

You can get the rear from GT racing, ut the cost to do it right...ouch. Ofcourse you aren't paying taxes atm, so maybe better for you. BTW...pm me with what you do over ther. If you're allowed. E

Try asking Lumbergs Lackey....MmmmKay to inquire how diffult it was to convert to a 968 rear.

The only rear bumper I could find at GT racing was the 230, which claims to save a substantial weight savings at 27lbs(presumably kills any crash protection?), but it appear to be only a bumper.

As a related question, does the rear valence do anything functional, or is it just a styling appendage? Getting rid of that and getting a GT racing bumper would really clean things up back there.

951 Rear looks so much more "race" oriented than the 968. The more I look at it, the 968 Rear looks bloated.

You can use both the rear euro stylt bumper, and keep the rear valance. (correct me if wrong guys) but the valance was designed to direct air coming from under the rear, and is part of the "ground effects" designed into the car for high speed.

the rear valence makes a big diference above 100mph. sucks the rear of the car down and decreases drag, allowing faster accelleration.

Thanks, good to know its there for a reason.

What about the GT Racing bumper? Does it remove crash protection or just remove those ugly rubber pads?

I'd be interested in saving 27lbs if I wasn't removing meaningful structural protection.

Ian, I have seen a lot of people who didn't lose anywhere near the weight that GTRacing states. For example they say that the hood will save something like 75 or 85 pounds(can't remember) Corloene replaced his hood and only lost 27 ibs, so be dubious about the extent that you will reduce weight.

On GT-racings site, under 968 you will find the 968 rear end as well as the rockers. You might want to ask MPD all about the costs and difficulties with FG installs, as he has done extensive work with FG parts on his car.
