Default 996 Sport Seats: Ease of Installation in '89 951

Bud of mine in town just scored a seat upgrade for his 996. His current seats are very good condition black leather that would match the interior of my 89 944 Turbo quite schweetly. My OE black partial leather seats are perfect, but I'm tempted to swap them out to keep them that way and enjoy the somewhat softer and more ergonomic 996 hides.

Is the swap a bolt up? What about the power control plug ins?

https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turbo-and-turbo-s-forum/183141-will-these-fit.html

theres a link to my thread, i was asking about 993 seats, and they mentioned that the seats were different for the boxster and 996

"They will fit fine. They are the same seats that were in the 94, 95 968.
Porsche changed the seats with the advent of the Boxster and 996 and these will not fit."

I will be interested to hear if you can find a way to adapt them, i know of a set close to me thats realatively cheap, too!

regards,
-Darwin

Not a bolt-on like the 993 and earlier seats are - there's custom work required on the brackets to adapt them to bolting on.

someone here has gt3 seats in a 968, so fitting 996 seats will be possible, just not as easy as fitting 993 or before seats

Well, the 996 sport seats can be installed in a 993 fairly easily, and my 951 has Recaro SRDs from a 993, so by association it shouldn't be a problem :-)

Here's a writeup with a ton of pics that should have enough to determine if it'll work on a 951: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/220783-my-996-sport-seat-install-diy.html

Are your 996 completely power because I am trying to do it now? My are power and memory and it is going to be a challenge.

Would love to hear how this turns out... Do you actually have the 996 seats handy? How many ways of power adjustment are there? Are they heated? Also, if you don't mind... can you weigh one of them on a bathroom scale or something? I'd love to know what they weigh. I picked up a 12-way elec adj heated SPORT seat from a 928GTS several years ago & it was no more than 45lbs at most.. I was surprised, after hearing how heavy they were & also after personally weighing 8-way elec adj leather seats from a 944... W/all of the Momo, Sparco, etc, seat adapters out there, I wouldn't think making these fit would be too terribly difficult... Would have to pull the passsenger 944 seat & see what's under there- would think the wiring, at most, would be a soldering job for new plugs, but, could be wrong... I always break several things when I try to upgrade one thing...
