1989 Turbos are even more collectible now....
Well, I wrote off my 1989 Linen Grey 951 this morning.
Ironically, I was on the way back from a PCA cruise in the rain this morning. Absolutely no problems on the cruise. After breakfast, I hopped on the freeway and came home. I took the exit ramp nearest my house at a normal speed for the weather (not raining, but wet road.) The ramp exits right, then rises up and does a decreasing radius 90 degree to the left and crosses the freeway. I apexed the turn, then applied a little throttle as I straightened. Next thing I knew, the car had a 911 moment.! The back end came around 210 degrees to the right and i was sliding across in front of oncoming traffic backwards towards the concrete bridge abutment. I missed the traffic, missed the abutment by inches and went over a 30 degree slope. A cedar tree stopped the left rear of the car halfway down the slope.
The car is completely crumpled in the left rear quarter, the left rear is now 4" lower than the right rear and the hatch frame is buckled. I think it is safe to say it is a write-off. Fortunately, I was going backwards and had time to go both feet in and brace against the steering wheel and backrest of the sport seat, so I am fine. Couple of minor sore muscles. The car is definitely built like a brick outhouse!
I will probably buy back the car and part it out, but the insurance won't even look at it for a week. No vulture requests, please. If anyone has any ideas on proving the value of this car, I would appreciate the help.

PCA can issue a valuation letter for any model. It is usually quite generous compared to the insurance company's opinion and is credible as it outlines the methodology for the price determination. I used one to good effect when I financed my 89 Turbo at the local credit union.

I visited the site and the impound lot this afternon after everything dried up.
The offramp:
My backwards skid marks across oncoming traffic:
Marks on the curb where I went over the embankment:
The car came to rest with only the hood visible from the hole under the cedar tree:
I am hoping ths will buff out:
The twisted rear end:

Wow, Don, I'm really sorry to hear that! That sux. Let me know if you need anything.
I'm very glad you weren't hurt. I don't want to think about what might have happened had the tree not been there.

Damm!
I did the same thing on highway 1 near Santa Cruz California puched it going downhill in the rain and performed two 360's missed at least 10 cars and ended up in the emergency lane facing on comming traffic got out cleaned my seat off and drove home. Sometimes lady luck comes just when you need her...

Sorry to hear of your loss :-(. It rains in Florida pretty much constantly so it is always wet. I was actually down in Micanopy by rennbay travis's country house and it started to rain. Got a little sketchy.... Good luck with the insurance company. Hopefully luck won't be required.
I looked outside and my 86 seems to have shed a tear. Update: On closer inspection it was actually power steering fluid. *Shakes fist*

Don,
I'm so sorry to hear that. I can't believe it. I was on my way to the PCA drive this morning, and ended up turning around and going home after going through a monsoon near the Lonsdale exit. Obviously very glad to hear that you're okay, but that really really sucks. Please let me know if I can help you out in any way. That was such a beautiful car.
