They are two totally different cars. One is a new, huge sedan with a big back seat, every option you have heard of PLUS about 50 others that you haven't. The other is a 20 year old sports car, with pretty much one thing in mind. Being as fast as possible. The ///M5 will not sacrifice comfort for performance.

They are both great cars.

ok....here's the bhp and 0-60 times of the m5 to date......

84-87 model....286bhp.......0-60 in 6.5 secs
88-95 model....315bhp.......0-60 in 6.3 secs
98-03 model....400bhp.......0-60 in 5.3 secs
05-on model....507bhp.......0-60 in 4.7 secs

from those figures i see no reason why anyone here with even stock 250bhp should fear the m5 ( current model excluded! ). my own car gets to 60 in 4.5 secs and tops out at 180+mph so i'm not gonna be too worried about the new m5 either.....

Stock e39 M5 does low 13's in the 1/4 mile , difficult for a stock 951S to achieve and if you get the optional speed limit deletion the new M5 will do 180 plus with no effort. Same goes for E55 , high 11's in the 1/4 with miniscule mods.
With the proper driver those cars will give you a run for your money.

yep.....thats true, they are quick cars but like i said......up to the current model m5....a stock 250bhp 944 should not fear a stock m5....the 0-60 figures speak for themselves....AND.....when an m5 ever does give me a good run i'll let ya know!

I think that we should give credit to BMW for biulding such a nice car. I have an 530i and my brother has a 540i and they are very nice touring cars. We should not compare this cars, because they are made for totally different purpose and they both excel at what they do.

Regards,
AL

I think this can all be summed up in two words:

"Ring Taxi"

You guys let me know when you find another car that can lap the Nurburgring that fast with 3 passengers riding in complete comfort (with the exception of a bit of nauseau), unmodified.

Valid, but I think they are slightly modded.

According to one of the drivers, the brake pads are the only changes. I guess that's a mod.

They are serious cars even in stock form.

A true wolf in sheep's clothing.

Like you said earlier, Ted, it's a stupid comparison.

I'd take the M5 over the 951, but the price points are totally different. Dump the same money in the 951, and I wouldn't even look at the M5. Then, again, I don't need child seats.

I swear people in Northern California are adicted to 5 series BMW's. The 101 fwy is like a parade of them. And here I just thought it was good marketing

Sorry, never saw this thread. Bring em on all day long. I would be willing to give them a head start. Unless they can blow GT3's out, I have nothing to worry about.
