Doh!! Ok, well that may explain part of the problem then. Maybe I should get an accuboost and throw it in and see what happens... Or just jump to an EBC. I've got my eye on several eBay auctions right now...

Doc, your testing method does not mean that theres no leaks.
You're over looking leaks at the exhaust manifold, wastegate,
crossover pipe flages etc. Any leaks around the above will
cause the turbo to reach full boost late.

yeah the black **** valve style MBC is only for dual port wastegates. It restricts flow above a certain pressure, so wouldn't be having any effect at all leaving you running boost control off the wastegate spring. For the single port wg you want the ball and spring type (Reliaboost, accuboost, LBE etc) which sends no signal to the wastegate until the preset pressure is obtained.
