Default Intake manifold spacers (for those guys who have large turbos)

Where do you all source your spacers from? We had to sublet a local machine shop to make a run of them for a customer's car back in the day, but I'm wondering if since then someone has decided to produce them.

I have to play seriously dumb here. What purpose does the spacer serve for a larger turbo? Is it for clearance under the manifold?

If it is for clearance only would a complete flange cut and machined from a scrap 951 manifold be a viable option? Maybe it wouldn't clear the hood though, I have a baby turbo. I've got 3 of these laying around and just wondered. At least you wouldn't have to worry about fitment, just longer bolts.

The intake manifold gaskets are roughly 2 mm thick, double gets you to 4 mm.

A set of gaskets cost $7 or less (depending where you get them) so double would be $14 or less.

If you can fabricate a flange, and then the time and money that goes into it (getting a scarp manifold), using double gaskets is straight forwards, simple and damn cheaper than fabricating anything.

One way we got a bit of extra clearance was to countersink the bracket for the spring return, then install a flush mount phillips head screw instead of the small allen bolt because that's where I've seen them hit most. This has worked for Kokeln, Vitesse II and Vitesse IV turbos. The double intake gasket is nice simple solutions as well - nice thinking there.

2 intake gaskets work for me also and I even use the turbo o-ring adapter plate the MySwiss sells, which raises the turbo 3mm or so.

Not having an aftermarket or larger turbo (K26-8) what are the clearance issues in mm's we are talking about? I know that some folks have had to trim a bit off the bottom of the manifolds for different turbos. I'm just curious, not questioning, but does a measly 2mm provide the additional clearance required for most non-KKK turbos?

For 3" inlet turbochargers (mostly), you need to have some tweeks to get it fit (Ski already pointed that out).

Do a search, some people grinded material off the turbocharger, some changed the TB spring bolts, some had no issues (i believe vitesse turbos need no mods if i am not mistaken).

I've been considering the double-gasket option for a while, and some material was already ground off of this turbo... I just still sit uncomfortably with the double gaske idea.

David, what turbo are you running? Vitesse Stage III?
