Default 968 Turbo RS Hood Vent

Well, I finally started on the "968 Turbo RS" hood vent on the 951. I took the big plunge and cut the hole. Now the project is just starting. I have to get the grinder/files out to even everything up and get everything symetrical. After/along with that is re-doing some of the structural support of the hood. Finally will be adding the lip to create a low pressure zone and finishing it up cosmetically.

I am not sure if the dimensions are exactly the same as a Turbo RS, but the shape is almost perfect. Jason at Paragon gave me detailed enough pictures to duplicate the vent almost perfectly in shape. After that was done, I just scaled it to be as wide as the 951 intercooler.

Anyway here is the first picture. Its rough, but the hole has just been cut out, no touchup or anything yet.

PS. My wife is REALLY pissed at me at the moment. She told me to leave the &%$$#%$# car alone otherwise I will break something or hurt the car's value. She just doesn't understand. I guess I shouldn't tell her that I want to put the extra nitrous kit that I have laying around on the car???

Are you going to make a plastic duct to chanel air from the IC?

you could use the extra nitrous system to cool the intercooler...just a thought

Do you know how much nitrous costs? Its probably the last thing you would want to spray on the IC if you had a choice.

i know how much it costs, but i've heard of it being done before, and it would cool it pretty well; but yeah, its not economical at all

A few of the nitrous suppliers actually make IC spray kits... Zex does and so does Holley IIRC. I think it mostly for the guys that are too scared to inject it and want the cool purge function.

I had no idea anyone actually made a nitrous IC sprayer...I've heard of it for plenty of ricers for the purge action, but used on the intercooler it might actually have some benefit; I don't think i'd run nitrous on a turbo car except maybe on one with a really laggy turbo, to get extra power before spool up

but back to the topic: good luck with the hood, I think it'll look badass once you get done with it

How did you go about cutting it? Just curious.

As far as nitrous goes...I still say port injection

and when you get done with that, get over here and cut my hood too...

You guys can spool a big turbo with nitrous....a BIG turbo.

I'm sure I'll find out what size turbo it can spool soon enough.

Most of the large cuts were done with a cutoff wheel. I finsihed it up with a fine jigsaw. That was the hard part. The jigsaw amde the few dents near the front.

As far as the ducting, I am torn. If I seal it up, the IC will work a little better. If I leave it open, then extra heat will escape from the radiator and help with cool down. I will probably leave it open at first, then maybe later seal it up for the IC. A multistage process. Insurance comes off soon for the winter, so I will have lots of time to fart around with it.
