Default Intake Brace Bolt!

Ok, I am removing the intake to delete the cycling valve, venturi, etc. I got down to this step in Clark's procedure....

11. Loosen the intake manifold brace bolt. On normally aspirated cars the bolt needs to be removed. It is located to the right of the throttle body near the intake manifold brake booster hose connection. On turbocharged cars, the bolt only needs to be loosened and is located to the left of the throttle body under the front edge of the intake manifold.

I can't figure out for the life of me how to loosen this bolt with any of the conventional tools I have!?!?!?! Anyone got some tips?

If you have a turbo, it's a bit tricky. IIRC it's a weird size too - 14mm or something. I end up having to use wobbles on it, as well as flexible ratchet-wrenches. No easy way unfortunately.

Its a pain. Just keep going at it with various combinations of wobbles and such.

Best tool I ever bought
1/4" drive extension with a wobbly 13mm socket on the end of it.
So from the wobble to the end of the socket is very short, so you can fit it in anywhere.
Got it from sears.

A 13mm deep offset works pretty good to.

That one is easy. I always have "fun" with the 10mm attached to the dipstick.

Newbies sometimes look at me weird when I mention "knowing every fastener on this car" [true for my 911 and rapidly becoming true for the 951]. Experienced guys just smile - they know.

This particular bolt is a classic. A Sears wobble worked for me, too.

I finally got it with a deep offset 1/2 inch wrench. I unplugged the turbo coolant temp sender plug and was able to get in there to break it loose. The 10mm one did not give me too much trouble although it would have been nicer if they had decided to put it on the other side instead. I'm going to cut out the bracket and make it U-shaped for next time.

Now that the intake is off the next part is figuring out what I don't need anymore. I am deleting the CV, and I wish I could get rid of that metal tubing under there, but I need the larger one that goes from the J-boot to the air/oil separator. I was thinking of replacing it with a long rubber one but the heat from the turbo is probably the reason Porsche went with the metal tubing under there. Anyone have anything custom they are using for that?

yeah I got rid of most everything under there, except that dang metal tubing
Just for the air/oil seperator also. You are probably right about the heat, the n/a has a rubber line.

This is exactly what I did too.

I'm just running a 3/4" rubber hose straight from the AOS to the intake j-boot. It's a tight fit, and you'll have to remove the CV bracket unless you get some sort of 90 degree bend at the AOS.
