Default New girl owner needs help in Denver area

Hello a good friend of mine just bought an 87' 951 and just started having problems driving from MD to CA/
her problems started with the central warning light and has now progressed to central warning light/ sealt belts and finally air-bag lights!!!!
Any ideas or anyone know of a local wrench open on a Sat.

Thanks in advance<

If she can make it to Kansas City, I have the digital diagnostics tool needed to diagnose it. Definitely sounds electrical, judging from teh way it spread. How is the car running otherwise?

Scott,
I will contact her this morning and see where she is. The car sounds like it is running well just these electrical gremlins. I will PM you and hopefully we can make a connection so that she can meet up with you.
Thanks in advance,

If I was home and she was coming on I 40, I'd get to Little Rock and assist, depending on where she is but it sounds like she is taking a more northern route across the country. I know there are a couple of rennlister in the Indy area, maybe they'll see the post.
Find out if the car is having tach or any other gauge problems in the cluster.

Airbag and'!' alone isn't that big of deal unless accompanied by other issues.

Is she stil near Indy? I have the stuff to test/reset the airbag here.

I have not heard yet from her this AM but I suspect she is probably driving already. When I spoke with her last night she said that the "!" light, air bag light and the seat belt light were all on.
I have done a little archive research and have come up with a few ideas.
The PO just had the battery changed within the last few weeks so could the alt./volt reg. be going south?
Air bag could have a bad ground?
Again as soon as I hear from her I will try and hook up with one of you generous rennlisters.
Thanks again.

I just spoke to her and she is about 300 miles away from Kansas City.
Thanks for all the offers to help.
Hopefully if things work out she can get some help in Kansas City.

I'm not sure if a voltage issue would cause the air bag light to come on but have her watch the voltage gauge and try to noticeany difference in the way the car starts.

She's very brave for driving accross country in a new unknown 951. Props.

OK she is now just a few hundred miles from Colorado. She was not able to meet up in Kansas City but the car is running good with no issues.
If anyone is in Denver and has a "reset" tool let me know.

If it's an 87, the reset tool is two pieces of wire and a stopwatch....

Brian,

There is a good sized group of experienced 944/951/928 guys in the Denver and metro areas. Keep in mind the "!" is a summary indication of any system that is monitored by the instrument cluster so the belt or bag lights COULD be causing it. Air bag reset might help, mine just came back after resetting.
I drove from WI to Denver in mid December with the car in it's "former" condition, no "!". Complete tons of major maintieniance work, take her out for a test drive and get greeted with the "!" light. It's been a year+, and although not high on my list, have been looking for it's cause and solving many things in the along the way.
When she gets to Denver and if she still feels these need looked at, post a calling to the Denver group! Plenty of experience out that way.

OK I'll do a little more research and see what I can find.
Thanks

Well I had the same problem laste year and the mechanic said if the warning bulb is getting old can cause these problems. So he changed the airbag light I believe or the ! light and all was fixed. Before this Another place reset the airbag computer and no luck thay wanted big money to go through the whole thing looking for a short. So for a few dollars change the bulbs behind the dash.

ian is right. If the airbag light is burnt or burning out, then the seatbelt and ! light will be on permantly as a warning that your airbag light is toast.

check to see what lights up during engine start and then you can tell what has burnt out.
