Default Vitesse chips in !!!!!

....and what a change!!!
The car is no longer a dog off-boost, it feels like a.........car! Much better response and driveability!
And it is just great to be able to get boost at part-throttle and not having to completely crush the pedal !!
The gain in power is very noticeable

With the LBE, I get around 15.5 psi peak dropping to 12.5 @ 6k (measured with an Auto-meter gage).

I haven't yet checked the fuel consumption, but initially it seems to be the same as before.

Now, time for some questions:

Is there anything to gain by shimming the WG ?

At what boost will the overboost protection kick in ?

Is the overrev limit the same as before ?

Is the O2 sensor still used at part-throttle ?

How about this spark-plug colour ? A bit on the lean side ??
(plug photo after fairly hard driving)

stock except for LBE+Vitesse chips

Thanks,
Tommy (off for a drive.....)

Holds more boost and helps in spool (since the wastegate is closed longer)

At what boost will the overboost protection kick in ?

With aftermarket chips, you don't have boost limit, read the vendor's notes that came with the chips for safe driving

Is the overrev limit the same as before ?

Should be higher, but again check with the vendor

That is lean, it should be tan in colour (more or less).

Tommy,

- Shimming the WG allows you to hold boost longer.
- Rev limit is raised few 100s RPM from stock.
- Overboost is raised, but still there.
- O2/closed loop remain as factory setup
- Plug is a bit lean, but if you did a hard run, then coasted to idle and did not check immediately after the hard run, the color does not indicate actual under pressure. Best to check AFR.. Keep in mind that you should be using a 3bar FPR!!

Interesting. My field evaluation (scientific purposes only of course) suggest it is set somewhere north of 22psi...

BTW, a while back I swapped out my old Huntley "Stage 4" MAF for a smaller Stage 3 MAF, and the V-chips really came to life. The chips made power with both MAF's but the engine now runs with stock-like smoothness -- even in stop and go traffic. I liked the Vitesse chips with the MAF4, but really like them with the MAF3 -- it's a mild mannered commuter than turns beastly at WOT. Hats off to you for doing such a good job. I hear the new chip-board is even better, somehow...

Ooops, of course, my bad;
I DO have a 3 Bar FPR, otherwise I wouldn't even think of testing performance......

Hi Tom, The external size of the MAF is not what matters, the actual calibration is. It appears that the Stage 3 MAF you have is closer to the calibration the chips were for.

The latest MAF code on the new board (board replaces DME chip) incorporates many new features such as:
- semi-sequential for smooth idle even with 83# injectors.
- support for additional MAF types and calibration as well as Air Temp types.
- Pump & Race gas setting, externally selectable
- 2 Rev limits (street, track) selectable as above
- Ability to store multiple images on the board, selectable via switches (55# image, 72# image ....)
- the same board works on a 24 or 28 pin DME.
- By using the board, we were able to bring the AFR closer to target. This will reduce the fine tuning needed.

Hi john

How much would it be to upgrade to the new board? Are you at the point where upgrades are available?

Thanks

Hi Tim, Upgrade will be made soon. At the moment we have a limited number of boards, once the new batch is done, I'll have plenty for upgrades. I will post on the website the upgrade info once I have the boards in hand.

My car had Autothority stage2 chips in it when i bought it. I then upgraded to the Vitesse chips. Big diffrence!! I couldn't believe how much more power they made. The car had less of that on/off switch feel to it because of the extra TQ
it was making.

Love my Vitesse chip!!! My 86 951 had Authority chips from PO, I ran a few DE's and blew the headgasket. Many $$$ later and much, much, research and talking to folks at the racetrack and just about everyone that I new owned a 951 really, i found out how important it was to run a chip that can handle boost at high RPM with addequate A/F ratio. I installed a Vitesse chip in May of this year and have been enjoying the extra torque, and lots and lots of track time at Infineon, Thunderhill raceways. I also got the Accuboost for much quicker turbo spool-up, and great seat of the pants feel.
