The upper one leaking will result in a vacuum leak and the bottom one would make it leak oil. Other than a vacuum leak causing a richer mixture I can't see one of those directly causing a significant amount of smoke from the exhaust. You might get some smoking in the engine compartment from oil dripping on the downpipe area with the lower one leaking but that's about it as far as the seals causing smoking.
