Default "MISTAKE" at the gas station

Well,

I accidently pushed 87 instead of 91 , SO to make a long story short I went to Kragen today and bought some octane booster to throw in there. Well I was buying the stuff the guy told me " you don't need high octane in a turbo car, the compression is low." lol

Just thought I would share, and also, running my car a few miles w/87 wil that ruin anything?

Thanks,

Jared

i know throwing octane booster from the store won't do much. if anything buy a couple of gallons of race gas and it should even the octane out. I would think if u have a modded car it wouldn't be good driving on 87 but if u are stock i think u should be fine but this is only a guess.

Just keep your foot out of boost for awhile and keep topping off with 91 whenever you drop a 1/4 tank. You should be fine. Kragen has some real winners working there. You can also buy 105 octane race gas on Hwy. 65 in Lincoln at the 76 station, but it won't come cheap.

Go to home depot and get a can of xylene or toluene and add 10% per gallon of gas.

stay of boost and you'll be fine. Store bought octane booster raises by .10 so you'll have about 87.1 now.

Go for a long ride and stay out of boost until you burn almost all that gas, no problem , no big deal. Just don't use diesel.

If the car is stock, 87 is fine. The 91 on the lid is an RON rating for europe which equates to about 87 octane. I was filling up a VW toureg the other day, and the lid said minimum "95 RON/91 octane."

I've run my chipped '86 for over a year on 87 octane gas. I don't get into heavy boost, and I average about 23 MPG with mostly city driving.

On a 951 the minimum octane is 91.

However Porsche designed these motors with knock sensors so that once could run 87 in pinch without damage to the motor. Knock as a result of too low octane would be sensed and timming retarded to prevent damage. You do lose power in this.

Personally I would just drive the car very easy. No full throttle stuff and burn the tank off. Then fill it with 91 and don't worry about it. If the car is modded then you really should boost the octane. Stay off boost in anyevent.

well...untill the knock sensors retard timing so much that you melt the head or something else. ( or does the klr shut the engine off after a surtain point?)

plus the loss of power that you will notice.
like others say. stay off the boost! so its basically an NA
